Gun Show ban in Austin?.......Update from NRA-ILA

City of Austin, Travis County consider gun show ban on public property, in public facilities (TX) ? Estate of Denial

The City of Houston banned ammo sales in city owned venues a few years back. The gun shows moved to other facilities outside the city limits, and to privately owned convention halls. When the city realized how much revenue was being lost, the ammo ban quietly disappeared.

“The fact this is happening on taxpayer supported property was shocking to me,”
This is a stupid reason, it does not matter what event is held it will offend someone; so all events should be cancelled. How many events are held on taxpayer supported property and sell beer? Seems to me alcohol related deaths are higher than gun related deaths. Stop selling beer at events. If you don't like them holding gun shows then don't go to the guns show. If the county is making $14,000 in rental fees and concession sales per show plus who knows how much in sales tax then obviously some people don't mind the shows being held.

As far as I'm concerned, I'd like to put all of those Austin elite liberals on a big truck and send their sorry butts to New York Ceety!

Actually Houston banned gun shows on their property and were sued for descrimination against lawful commerce and restricting gun sales, something only the state can do. Houston lost the suit, several million dollars and now hosts them quite often.

When Texas passed the CHL law both Austin and Houston posted 30.06 sights at parks. The AG "b*^%h slapped" both cities to take the signs down as illegal. You'll still see a couple in Austin but they're not enforceable.

Don't live in Austin, but travel there frequently. Two shows scheduled this month that I can see. One's at the city owned facility ( the Saxet Gun Show ), so that will be cancelled probably. But the other is at the North Austin Event Center, which is private rental property, so the vendors will just change and everyone keeps on making money.

But politicians do love their gestures.
