Gun buying itch

I have not bought a new gun in a long while. I'm fighting the itch now. Of course I log in today and see the Go Big or Go Home thread and that did not help one bit.

I am happy with my current collection and have no desire to sell any. My taste has now moved from affordable shooters to expensive shooters. There are two on the radar. The .50 AE Desert Eagle and a .50 BMG rifle. Both of which I would shoot often because well that is what I like to do.

The Desert Eagle is the Color Case hardened model and comes in just under $2000.

The .50 BMG comes in at just under $3500 in the configuration I want. Could knock that down to just under $3100 with the standard model, but hey another $400 for what I really want is worth it.

For me shooting a .50 BMG is hard to explain, I am just overcome with euphoria and find the experience mentally relaxing. Just like shooting my .500 S&W Mag, it is one of the best stress relievers I know. Now I have never shot a .50AE, however I have fondled many Desert Eagles, like the way they feel, and am pretty sure I will like how they shoot. When I visited their booth at the last NRA show I stumbled upon the model I posted above and fell in love with it. Figured it would pass and I would move on. Nope, still have the desire to own it so it remains on my list. Last I checked with my local shop the distributor he used was out of stock.

Where the heck in the Keys can you shoot either of them?

You set up your target on the beach... in Cuba.

If I heard $1.50 or more hitting the ground every time I pulled the trigger, euphoria is the last thing I'd be feeling!

I have up to 100 yards at the outdoor range in Key Largo. 500 yards at a range 25 miles North of me on the main land.

It is just like flying on an airplane! If you can afford the ticket, you can go first class!

Go for it Paul!

I'd stick with the DE, I find heavy satisfying recoil is best served with a one handed blast!

Getting the itch is the easy part, fulfilling it, not always so easy.

I've shot a Desert Eagle in 44 magnum and it's about the biggest handgun I would want....it was ...lets say hefty.
The 50 AE would just be way too much of a good thing for me. After 4 rounds of 44 magnum in the DE , I was done. That big slide , slamming back and slamming forward increased the sensation of more recoil. Felt like twice as much as with the 44 magnum revolver we were shooting.
My son in law said the same thing...felt like more recoil with the DE than with the revolver .

I still love the line, "For the burglar... in your neighbor's house... behind the refrigerator... "

I have never shot, or handled for that matter, the DE. Pretty cool looking gun though. Still my money is on the .50BMG. That thing is sweet!

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but what you really need is... both.

LJ (Little Jon) has owned a few of the DE50, as such I have had the opportunity to fire them a couple of times. Notice that I say a couple of times and not a lot. I didn't find it a comfortable shoot for my taste, but then I also sold my Taurus 500 for the same reason.

That being said, the DE seems to be one of those firearms that if it is your cup of tea then it will keep you coming back for more. AS for the cost to purchase and feed it, if you have the means then by all means "just do it".

The vast majority of the posts on this forum is about handguns. My interests lean more toward rifles and the bolt action .50 BMG is (as Sekol says) The Cat's Meow! It's an expensive itch but .50 BMG is the most powerful round we're allowed to own. Why go less?

Even worse, it’s a splash into the ocean and you can’t even reload it when it gets lost in the water.
