Well, for Christmas my wife said I could get my first 1911. So I was going to ask you all what you thought. Seems the GSR's have had their fair share of problems so I'm not sure. I'm a huge Sig fan but have never owned one. I currently have a MillPro and it's been flawless. I know the GSR is more but hey, I can get it if that's what I decide to do. I just want a nice 1911 and want stainless as well.

So, what do you all think? Any input is welcome!

Thanks!
M

I'm really leaning towards the GSR... It's just so dang sexy! Seems all the new owners are really pleased with them as well. Oh and Merry Christmas to you as well!

The PT1911 of course. :D Many owners here will vouch for their dependability, accuracy and sturdiness. Mine has been an outright joy to own and shoot since I've had it for these past few months and have had zero problems with it.

DRAEGER likes the PT1911s so much he has 4 of them. :) When a 'smith owns that many it's a testament to me of their quality.

Beyond the SIG name, what are you really getting with the GSR that you won't have with the Taurus?

You're right. I really don't know. This is my first 1911 so it's not like I need some top of the line model. I wouldn't even know the difference, honestly. I just held a PT1911 Stainless in my hand and was very impressed with it. I do like the looks of the GSR over the Taurus, but that's a secondary issue really.... I may get back in my car here in a few and go get the Taurus. =)

Actually, I may wait. The gun shop has a $699 sticker on the gun. Too much when I can get it $50 cheaper than that delivered. There is a gun show this weekend in Tulsa too... I'll look there as well.

$699 is way too much, the store is asking MSRP & I'm sure you will do better elsewhere. I have my PT1911 SS on order & my price was quoted at $639. Depending on prices in your area, I think you should be able to get one for under $650..........Good Luck........

I like the looks of them both but I also agree that the PT1911 is closer to the old-school style; but I won't deny that the GSR's look pretty nifty.

Sig GSR all the way. http://www.gunsandammomag.com/ga_handguns/gsr_0401/
Your asking in a Taurus forum so expect the answers to fall along "party lines". Just being able to change sights without "special" or "gunsmith machined" sights is the tip of the iceberg for me.
Sig has been LONG known for QUALITY products and service.
I enjoy my Taurus's VERY much and shoot them often.
But Sig vs Taurus isn't even close, like Toyota vs Kia.
The extra money is well spent if you can afford it. If not, the Taurus (or the Kia), will serve you well I'm sure.

LikesToShoot, you've been here long enough to know that we don't just spout the party line here (the list below is just off the top of my head).

The only gun that I've personally seen/handled that had to be shipped back to the manufacturer to have work done on it (out of spec slide) was a Sig. Now, I don't say that Sigs are bad from this, just that 1 of them had issues.

I suspect that a member will get a more un-biased response here than from most manufacturer specific forums.

Now if someone has actual facts and not just hearsay, I'm interested. Otherwise, I stand by the question I asked previously, beyond the SIG name, what are you really getting with the GSR that you won't have with the Taurus?

I have read a mixed bag on the Sig Revolution 1911 just like I have read a mixed bag on most other pistols, too.

Keep in mind that the Sig is going to cost about $900. That is a quite a chunk of change to be putting on the table for a gun where in one review I read, the plunger tube worked out all on its own (not due to test firing) and the gun failed to fire in the midst of a match! http://ezine.m1911.org/SIGC3_frame.htm

No thanks! If I am going to plunck down nearly a thousand dollars on a gun, I don't want to risk a plunger tube wriggling out on its own and a failure to fire.

I am sure there are many good Sig 1911s out there, but there are many good PT1911s out there for half the cost, and they are doing well thank you!

I'm also a member at Sig forum, Beretta forum, M&P forum, 1911 forum, SteyrClub and a couple general gun forums, :-X so no biased opinions from me :D

I have no experiance with PT1911 so can't comment on it, but fwiw I had better luck with Taurus than SIG :-\ Also while Sig make great guns (most of the time) the GSR like and the .22 Mosquito have had their share of problems (the later gun is crap!). but I have to say if they both cost the same I'd probably pick the GSR only because I like the look of tha gun...

but if I were to spend few hundred dollars more (over the PT1911) I'd go with another brad (not the sig)...

Based on everything I have heard and read on both the GSR and the PT1911 and cost being a factor, I would go with the PT. And that is coming from a guy who really really likes his P220 Combat.

Good to hear guys. I'm digging the Taurus more and more. I'm all for the underdog. =) And I didn't see any SS pt1911's at the show today. Heard they were there but I must have gotten there too late. =(

www.gunbroker.com has a limited number of auctions with the PT1911 ss at the moment if you're interested?

MaddSkillz,
I have to agree with Pierce. The Sig is too rich for my taste and new on the market. For that much, I'd go with a Kimber or Colt. But the reason I went with the Taurus 1911 was that it has more bang for the buck than any other brand. I went with the blued version and will get it out of lay-a-way in about 2 wks and can hardly wait. It will be my first 1911, too.
