Hi all,

I'm hoping that someone here will know the answer to this one. I have two Rossi revolvers that I like an awful lot. They're both of the same vintage and frame size: one is the 742–a 2 1/2-inch adjustable sighted .357 with the unfluted cylinder (bought new and cheap years ago) and the other is my pet 720–the DAO .44 special that I couldn't afford when it first came out in the early 90's, and that I jumped on big time when one appeared at my local gun show late last year.

Both came with identical finger groove rubber grips; they're interchangeable.

At any rate, I scored some fairly hard-to-find OEM wooden grips–not the skinny kind; these the kind that are flush with the backstrap, but also fill in the area behind the trigger guard. These are on the .44 as I type–that one's perfect.

As much as I like the look and feel of wooden grips though, with hot loads in a snubby .357, I *really* want rubber grips. I've never much cared for the feel/pointing of the older fingergroove Rossi grips, however, so I am wanting to swap for a set of my favorite rubber stocks, the pachmayr compacs.

They are only listed for the model 68 and 88s. My guess is that the 88 grips will also work on either the 742 or the 720, but I don't know for sure.

If nobody else knows for sure, I'll just take a flyer and try them out, but if someone here knows for sure that they won't work, then I'll save the 30+ bucks and look elsewhere.

Also, any early 90's-era Rossi owners have some favorite aftermarket grips that they would recommend?

TIA, and thanks for reading this far.

They should fit. I had a 971 that would swap with my 88 and my 511. All those frames used the same grip. I don't know why a 720 would be any different. I've never had a 720, though.

Norton, I'll let you know about the pachmayrs... but in the meantime, you might be interested to know that I bought some original wooden Rossi grips off ebay; they fit just fine, despite being advertised for some sort of older model.

Just a quick follow up; my pachmayr compacts arrived today, and they went right on the 742. This means that I could also use them on my 720.

Looks like all these frames are similar enough to be interchangeable: 68, 88, 511, 971, 720, 742, etc., etc., when it comes to grips–this is obviously good news, as ebay is full of old wooden grips, and the pachmayr stuff is still in production.

I want to make sure that I understand this:
Grips for these 68, 88, 511, 971, 742, will fit the 720?

Thanks and I'm off to ebay.

Thanks for the offer but I would save those. Just in case I would want to do a lot of shooting.

I compiled this list from ebay auction ads by custom handgun grip manufacturer, jaruwan.p ( www.ebay.com/usr/jaruwan.p ) and Amazon ads. I am assuming that an ad listing several various gun model numbers for a single grip design is correct. Listing in no particular order.

This post was from 2009, probably not looking for grips anymore.
