Is there a particular type of wood that is better for a revolver grip than others? I am thinking about Walnut, but not sure. Ideas?

If you are making it go ahead. A lot of grips are made because of the wood grain and how they stand out. Play around with some wood and stain them to see how they will look. Give it a Shot ;D. Post some pics when you get done also.

I would say hardwoods due to percussion but I gotta tell ya I made a custom (shaped to my r hand) wrap around grip for a SistemaColt 1927 about 6 yrs. ago and it turned out beautiful, wish I had pictures. It was all done with SPF scrap. I had worried about it's durability because it wasn't a hardwood but it turned out fine. Put a 1000 rds through it with nary a shift. I textured it by taking a fine file and crisscrossing it. Then I stained and polyurathaned it. It had the wrap around feel of a revolver. I've been thinkin of taking the rubber grips off my Rossi 351 and doing the same thing. I will use hardwood this time though. Not only for durability but the beauty of the hardwoods, like walnut. I saw one of your revolvers, if I recall correctly, in the gallery here that I was quite impressed with. It reminded me of this Sistema that I had done. Keep us posted if this is what u r going to attempt, Bonedigger. Or should I call u Fred ;D ;D
