Well I just bought a glock (which I never thought I'd ever do) and I just like having a safety on my gun. I've noticed a lot of gunsmiths can add one on and that brownells.com has one. I was just wondering what you guys think of these safetys. Now I know people dont care for safetys but I like having one. Let me know your input. This is not the safety that is like a pin through the trigger. It is an actual safety lever.
Thanks

I don't like them. To install them you must cut away some polymer from the lower receiver. (In my opinion this would compromise the structural integrity of the pistol)

I've been working on Glocks for a long time now and would not recommend this modification.
They are safe the way they come from the factory. I've dropped my Glock 19 from heights of 10 feet and it did not fire.

I just mainly want it for piece of mind. I really like having a safety one my gun. I'm still new to carry and its not that it makes tons of sense, it just makes me feel comfortable. I having a saying with guns and its not whats best but what you feel most comfortable with. Theres plenty of story of people shooting themselves during unholstering. I dont plan on carrying one in the chamber but I will from time to time. Its during those times that I want the manual safety.

I hate to put it this way but if you wanted a pistol with a safety you shouldn't have gotten a Glock. There are other pistols similar is size/weight with a manual safety.

+1. I didn't want to say it this way either but Steelheart is 100% correct.

I disagree. I searched and for what I wanted subcompact and 9mm with safety the only company was beretta px4(not available) and millenium pro. I do love Taurus but my recent experience makes me question their quality. I'm not saying its bad but I need more time with the brand to feel fully comfortable. That's how I made my decision. I was almost sold on the millenium pro.

In the end it is your decision with what you're comfortable with, but you did ask for opinions which were given to you.
I REALLY would just try and become comfortable with the Glock system and not add an aftermarket manual safety to it.

You also might have missed the CZ 2075 RAMI---it has an external hammer and a manual safety/decocker:

don't get me wrong I appreciate the opinions as long as the intentions are well. I hear what you guys are saying but I went this route for a few reasons. If the add on safety really sucks then I won't put it on. That's why I want opinions on it.
Thanks
by the way I've heard (but have no knowledge about kits to dampen recoil) what are the pros and cons about these
Thanks again

Like the transvestite said to Tom Cruise in Risky Business, "You don't buy Sony when you really wanted RCA"......if you want a safety, you might want to stick to Ruger, Taurus, or maybe the newer Springfield Armory gun.......

After market products are fine in most cases. But in the instance of safety, I'd shy away from it.

I did try out many guns and I weighed the pros and cons of all the guns. The safety wasnt the only factor. I did want one but obviously I chose for a few different reasons. After I found the safety add on online just doing research information. I figured it may not be a bad idea and then I'd have a gun with everything I'd want.

I keep reading about all the problems with the Taurus Mil pro and never hear about all the problems that the baby Glocks have, I've talked to guys selling baby Glocks at gun shows and they can't give them away. It seems like you say Glock and the sky opens and God blesses you. sombody's got there head in the sand. the bigger Glocks are more reliable size 19 and up if you want a safety the cz 2075 is a great gun. +1 NYPD

This inquery is in no way a glock commercial or a Taurus bash. I actually never wanted to purchase a glock because I've never been more annoyed than hearing some people talk about them like they came directly from the sky. Look at my recent post about my judge with pics. Its nothing horrendous but its enough to at least allow me to question the quality of SOME of the guns coming out of the taurus factory. Like I said its nothing horrible but my revolvers already losing its ability to smoothly rotate the chamber after only 200 or so rounds. I have a 24/7 that I love and has been trouble free for close to 1000 rounds. Still those experiences were a minor influence at most in my decision. At the gun shop I felt the Springfield XD9, Taurus Millenium, Smith MP, KAHR, Beretta .380, Sig 250, and a few revolvers. The one that felt the most comfortable in my hands was the glock. Not because of the name, but I just really really like the grip. Every company has lemons and yes you can get it with a 300 dollar or 3000 dollar gun, but in the end the glock felt the most comfortable, was in the price range, and has a tendency to less likely be a lemon. Trust me when I say that It was difficult turning down the Taurus since my whole collection is from them. I made my decision and am happy with it(so far) and I'm just trying to give it the bells and whistle to make it exactly what I want. If thats not a reality I'm sure I'll be purchasing more firearms in the future.

Sorry to comment on the CZ. I've never had any experience with the company or dealt with any of there firearms. I'm not saying anything negative about them. I'm just saying I know nothing about them, thats why it wasnt a candidate. On a better note its nice to see guys at gun shops actually start to push and recommend Taurus.

How about a XD 9 Subcompact? It's a glock with safety features.
