which would you choose? why? which one performs better, and is more accurate? does the 4.6" barrel on the glock have any disadvantages to the 5" barrel on the xd?

thanks guys, brian

You are getting a reliable, accurate, and nearly indestructible firearm either way you go. And no, I cannot see any disadvantage that a 4.6" barrel would have compared to a 5". Possibly a very minor loss of velocity that would be so insignificant that it's not even going to be factored into the equation.

BTW---I have both...and love them both.

Glock gets the advantage due to availability of parts.
Both are great guns with great reputations. I prefer the grip angle on the XD and like the grip safety. I have owned both, and they are both quality hand guns. You will not go wrong with either.

this advice here is why I am choosing the glock of the XD for my next gun.
Even with the above noted Glock parts advantage I'd suggest getting whichever one feels/points better in your hands.

Steelheart
I have an XD and replaced it with a 1911. I don't like the XD trigger, the sear reset seems super long. Half the time, I cant tell if I've gone past the reset. Compaired to the Glock, the XD fits a little better in the hand (esp. if u have "feminine hands", as my fellow officers tease). Glock seems to be a little more "time tested", as the XD has only been out for 5 yrs or so. DOn't know if that helps or not.
I'm not a Glock or XD fan, so I will suggest M&P 45 :) I have M&P9 and it's been great gun...

but if I had to choose between Glock and XD I'd probably go with G21SF... or a 4in XD model.

I second the M&P .45. I have one and a M&P .40. Reliable and very ergonomic in the grip. Parts are also becoming readily available..
i dont really like glock, i'd probably go with the XD but either way you can't really go wrong.
I've got a Taurus pt1911 that I love and a 9mm XD that you can load anything you want in it and it will not jam or ftf love both guns , now I'm saving for the XD in 45 tac hope that helps
I've owned an XD 40 great weapon. The only thing is I don't like the XD grip. When I decided I "needed" a .45 I chose the 21 SF over the XD,Smith.Been very happy with my decision. Also you'll find accessories for the Glock a little easier and more plentiful to obtain.Regular model 21 mags will fit it.you will have to order holsters for Glock 29 to fit it,Holsters for the model 21 wil not fit the SF.
