I remember reading somewhere the reason for this. I don't have a problem sending the gun back to Taurus, BUT, with current shipping costs, it will be a whopping $106.04 to overnight from Tucson to Miami, FL.

My question is, is this an easy fix I can do at home?

Why do you have to overnight it? You can save a ton of money by sending it 2 day. Or, your local gunshop might be able to ship it even cheaper than that.

I posted the answer to that shipping question already, but in a nutshell, the BATF requires handguns to go through common carriers (ie: UPS/FEDEX). UPS/FEDEX will only ship overnight. Local shops don't want to help because I didn't buy it from them.

You should have at least one local shop that will ship - otherwise, you would not be able to buy anything online, like from gunbroker.com for example.

The reasons are many, my son. 1-I buy from gun shows sometimes. 2-I buy a lot of C&R guns direct. 3-The friend with an FFL I use sometimes helps me buy cheap as a favor. I don't want to wear my welcome out.

Hmmm. Thinking about buying a Ruger Charger from Murphy's. Maybe them. Thanks for the idea.

Here's an update.

Bought that Ruger Charger from "Murphy's" here in Tucson. Salesman said they would rather not take Gaucho to the post office for me because it ties up an employee for over 2 hours.

I would have loved to tell they guy off and remind him of all the business I've given them in the last ten years, but Murphy's is still the best darn gun shop in Tucson and I didn't want to burn any bridges I would need later.

So I called Taurus, and asked for help to cover the approx $100.00 shipping charge. The girl I spoke to said something vague about the gun being too old (I bought it the day they got it in stock) so they couldn't help me. I explained I've only shot 30 rounds through the gun but it fell on deaf ears.

Next I wrote Taurus a letter, very politely asking for assistance and informing them I have been a satisfied customer since 1994, when I bought my PT92, which shoots as good today as the day I bought it. I also explained I was unemployed (ecomonic stimulus check went to Ruger!) and every bit helps.

I closing I stated that if I did not hear from them in 30 days, I would assume they did not want to participate in any assistance and I would attempt the repair myself. (Hoping to appeal to possible liability in a nice way)

I'll keep you guys informed.

I have a Gaucho that had this problem, I solved the problem with Federal primers, tried CCI, Remington with erratic fires. Never tried Winchester as no one ever had them, but I have not had a mis-fire since I switched to them.
Now if you don't re-load I guess you might try Federal ammo to see if that helps.
My theory on the light strikes is the smooth action they use a main spring that has been cut away to lighten the trigger thus causing a lighter hammer strike.

You could be right, I've had to play the primer switching game with my Glocks. But those weren't new guns and had reduced power connectors installed. With 20 rounds of ammo (that function 100% in 3 other guns) and a brand new gun I want better reliability.

Taurus, you now have 21 more days to do the right thing.

I have a Gaucho .357, blued, 6 1\2" barrel and I have had no problems with mine. But the comment from Taurus repair as to the gun being "too old" baffles me. I thought they had a lifetime warranty, so how can the gun be "too old". Is there something I am missing here?

My impression is that the gun was "too old" for the factory to help with free shipping. Its like if you just buy a gun and it falls apart the first time you shoot it. I waited too long to complain, and that just plain sucks. I really can't afford the shipping, the gun shop I bought it from won't sent it, and I'm fairly certain Taurus isn't going to budge.

I wish I knew how to reach someone higher at Taurus. This is no way to treat a loyal customer that has purchased over 11 new Tauruses since 1994 and remains one of their most outspoken defenders.

If this were an automobile, it would be like shipping my 1997 sedan with only 2k miles back to the factory for around $5000.00 (Assuming a purchase price around $20,000.00)

I wanted to post this in case it may help someone. I bought a used Gaucho .45 last year (a trade + $150 cash = $350) . It had the 'misfire' issue. Out of every 6 rounds, only 4-5 would fire. I did my research, & was preparing to send it to Taurus for them to repair, but I wanted to explore ALL my options. Fedex was going to cost me $69 to ship overnite (NC to Miami, FL), USPS wouldn't ship without a dealer, & I never made it to UPS, but I expect the price would be similar to Fedex. Dealers may have been able to ship it a little cheaper for me, so I wanted to find out ALL my options....especially since I've read varying results by owners who shipped theirs to Taurus. I went by a local gunshop/firing range (where I shoot) to discuss my situation (them shipping for me vs. possibly working on it). They had one of their gunsmiths check it out first. He fixed it for me. He told me that all he did was adjust/tighten the hammer spring. It cost me 1 hr. labor + 1 box ammo = $66 (about half ammo cost & half labor). He put one box of ammo thru it & I put another 40 rounds thru it with NO MISFIRES! I want to give props to 'On Target' Shooting Range & Gun Shop in Asheville, NC. They are great!!! I am very satisfied & happy with my decision. I really do like this gun a lot! Too bad Taurus didn't tweak their design, fix this issue, & continue to manufacter these bad boys.
