G3c front sight tool wont fit

254 Views 10 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Ga farmer
I am a new member! I have a bunch of Tauruses. A 92f, a 605, 3 tx 22's, a th9c, a g2c, and my new g3c. I enjoy working on my own guns and l have a lathe and a Bridgeport milling machine. So im pretty well versed in amature gunsmithing. I wanted to change to some night sights. My problem is that my "glock" tool won't fit down on my screw. The thickness of the slide where the barrel is prevents it from going straight on. Is there an short tool, or something offset that will fit on there straight?

Welcome to the forum from KY. My G3C didn't require a Glock tool, just a standard 2mm allen wrench. It was loose which helped make things easier. As a machinist myself, my best investment has been a magnifier to see all the really small parts. It saves you a lot of headaches.
I had an issue when changing the front sight on my GX4 XL. I had to slightly bevel the outside of the tool in order to fit the screw. To aid in removal, I also heated the front of the slide with a hair dryer until it was uncomfortable to touch.
Thank you for the welcome! I have a couple of thise managifiers. Lol. I got the one with the headband and I also have the one like surgeons use that look like eyeglasses. Mine definitely does have the 2mm hex "bolt" , I wish it did have the Allen. I'm just going to get one of those cheep Amazon glock tools and cut it off then maybe drill holes in it for a punch or a small screwdriver to go through it , or cut a slot in the top. I was thinking that, maybe this is why everyone is having so much trouble out of them, they think they are tight, but the tool is slipping ?

Thanks dad! My problem is that with such an angle, and the head is so thin that my tool won't set down and grip the very front of the "bolt". So it just slips. I do think I'll try a heat gun and see it it will help loosen it but then I'll won't be able to get it tight when I reinstall it. I'm going to try what I said above maybe I'll make it a loaner to the forum if it works!

I just used a drill and drilled thru the center of the screw and the sight kind of just fell off.
You don't need the screw anyhow. the new sight has a new screw. It worked for me.
How did you ascertain that the new one was tight? Since mine is slipping then I cannot in good conscience think I will have the new one tight before it slipps.

I tried the heat gun and no joy! I wound up milling off most of the sight and still had trouble.
An update! I beveled the tool and cut a notch in it. Nothing. I tried heat no luck! I even put the slide on my wifes iron and got it real hot no joy! I wound up milling the sight down to about 100 thousands before it would finally break loose. Similar to what someone said about drilling it out. I suppose with all the complaints about it falling off taurus decided to put it on with rockset or red Locktite. Thanks for all the suggestions! I used a combination of several to fix my problem.

Glad you got it off. My sight screw was only finger tight after a couple hundred rounds and had a different screw. Tarus must have "fixed" that problem, but no need to go overboard. I just changed sights on another gun, and they drifted out with a nylon punch, the set screws were installed with blue Loctite, but no problems. Now my Springfield XD rear sight had to be milled off completely, it's nice to have a milling machine.

Upon closer inspection the thread locker was grey so I strongly suspect it is rockset. Like I said in another post, I believe that taurus got tired of having warranty claims and got serious about making sure they didn't come loose again. I've got some of that new orange Locktite and I'm going back with that. People on here seem to really like it.
