So I was at my local gun shop and saw these on the shelf.

Extreme shock...

$13.95 for 5 rounds! Yeah.... they're sold in blister packs. That's what has me worried.

Here's the one I saw on their website that I was interested in.

They're claiming over 1100 fps... would that be considered a +p round?

What exactly does "explosive entry" mean.

I'm currently carrying with Speer Gold Dots in .40
I've heard nothing but good things about the gold dots, but this just looks like more of a devastating round.

I have looked at these before. Seem overpriced and gimicky to me. Stick with the Gold Dots. Tried and true ammo. As far as I know there is no +P spec for .40 so any claims are just that, claims.

I'm with you ... sounds overpriced and gimicky.

I did see a pic on there claiming they took a 505lp wild boar with a single 9mm shot. They did not mention shot placement or the 6 hours it took him to bleed out either.

a bunch of us over at XDtalk sent him the money to purchase the rounds and test them and compared to other rounds they didnt fare to well.

There's enough threads and posts in this section of the forum and elswhere on decent to excellent ammo rounds for defense. Glasers, Magsafe and other frangible defense loads do work well, but are prohibitively expensive.

Testing to see if fit and function work, as well as where point of impact are at various ranges is needed before relying on any ammo type or brand for defending one's self or others.

With the large number of excellent types of rounds out there that work well under most circumstances why would there be a need for "Extreme Shock"? There are better low level penetration rounds out there in standard and +P guise if that's what's called for.

First off, I have serious reservations using anything firearm related from a company who's adds appear to be taken from a video game.

Second, I've heard from several people that the ammo doesn't live up to its claims. For example, North Bender on the Makarov board had 1 out of 5 separate during handling before he could test it. Now I'm quoting this from memory so I could be a little off.

IF I were to chose to use a frangible defense load I'd go with either Glaser or Magsafe. They've both been around long enough and had many independent tests done that people have a good idea what they're buying.
