I'd be more likely to win a multi million dollar loto (I dont play) than have some one break in and assault me in my house. Won't ever happen.
Only thing i have is a single shot chopped shot gun under my bed. Might take me a while to fetch it. The dogs would kep an intruder entertained. With my dogs, alarm system, cameras, and beings i live is a pretty much crime free small town. It has and will never happen.
I've had one of those false alarms that I thought was an explosion. We had some water issues one day where it seemed like the water had been off for a while. That night this loud crash woke us up, and the first thing through my head was the water heater exploded. Nothing in the house out of place, so I go to the room with the furnace and water heater to check. Everything normal there also. Walked around the outside and everything looked OK. It wasn't till the next morning that I discovered a basket with suction cups in the shower had let go. 2 cans of shaving cream bounced through the metal tub from 4 feet up. Those kind of alarms suck.
I have my PT92 and PT111 very close by and I can have either one of them in my hand before my feet hit the floor (flashlight too). However, this brings up a potential situation for me to maybe add to this discussion. I am hearing impaired and I take the aids out when I go to bed, so in reality, I am not going to hear a random "bump in the night". The smoke alarm will raise me without issue though. I have two dogs that might be able to wake me up but I am not confident of that because they are in another room (my daughters). Anyone else have to deal with a hearing problem? I suppose some sort of loud alarm system might be in order. Thoughts?
I have a double barrel shotgun that I can get to, two blasts and all will be good!! If god forbid that doesn't work the 1911 is within five inches of my hand.
Taurus 85 (loaded) in the night stand, 10/22 hanging in its case (loaded) on a coat tree 4' away. I can unzip the case a few inches and it drops out. A 16 ga. pump, 6 shot (plug removed), with #1 buck (loaded) (OO buck does not stack well in a 16 ga) in the BR closet.
I used to keep a couple of pistols close at hand during the night, and Grandpa's Lefever 12 gauge double barrel in the closet a few steps away. Alas, they were swept away while rafting in the raging Rio Grande that runs through Albuquerque.
Note them Class 6 rapids you see there. Lucky to have gotten away with my life, I don't know why I ever agreed to take that rafting trip. Needless to say, all I had with me was lost.

In the middle drawer of the night stand next to the bed I have a Taurus Judge. Its with-in arms reach and the middle drawer is even with the bed, so I just have to stick my arm out and my hand is inline with the drawer and the Judge is oriented so I can grab it and be ready to shoot if I need to.
The only thing in the drawer is the Judge and the towel it rests on. I keep it on the towel to prevent it getting scratched and so it doesn’t slide around.

Small safe beside my bed that gets opened every night before bedtime. I have about 5 guns in there but usually the Judge is on duty for the night shift with alternating rounds of PDX .410 and Hornady Critical Defense 45 LC just incase the BG gets tired of being shot by the same round
My last 'live' roll out was a couple of years ago. My wife was out of town (so i knew it was not her) and I was jarred from sleep then heard things falling in the library ( not far from the bedroom ). Move, roll out, pull the Glock, grab the phone and specs - call 911 while still in cover and as I began to give my info I was cut off in a less than polite fashion with the direct statement "Sir, we are having an earthquake!" - that's all I got. Click. Thanks!
We do sit on a fault that rarely shifts and there is 1 quake of note over 100 years ago ( some say we're due). It was over. I saw the leaning artwork that had fallen over. Picked a few things up. Went out for a look at the house - seemed sound at 3am. Crawled back in bed.
