Took them to the range, yesterday, and the steel plates clanged a whole lot! Are we ready for matches? No; not going to waste money competing when I don't have a ghost of a chance, yet. We plan on doing something about that, though. I figure two or three mornings a week, before work.

Anyway, happy days!

I have never provided much in the way of "competition in IDPA or USPSA but I sure didn't let it stop me from having a bunch of fun!

Some clubs offer 'intro' classes — others also add practice sessions with advanced or willing shooters. I can go out any Thursday eve after Daylight Savings and run stages and drills in a 'Trigger Time' IDPA session. More than once the Th. before a match one or two setups just happen to bear a resemblance to the some 6 stages laid out at Saturday's match!

The clubs are generally a really friendly, open, sharing group. I'm 3 years in and am seeing it as a lifelong sport currently!!

I also echo Minga...I never placed anywhere close to the top in USPSA, but it's fun and great practice...look up a club and attend a match just to observe, you may get hooked.

That is what happened.

I recently bought a Ruger SR-762 and a Springfield M1A Scout and was looking for a range. Turns out, there is a new gun club in the area!

Wifey and I popped by to get an application and they just happened to be conducting a match. You nailed it - We were immediately hooked!

The competition was the steel plates, like this:

The star and the bar were the targets that set the hooks. Even Wifey got excited. That was great, as she has absolutely no interest in diving, which has kept me on land since getting married. I am not interested in having a hobby that doesn't include her.

Range opens at 0900 hours, and it is now 0736. I'll be AIS at 0835 hours, pulling out of my driveway!

Check it, again. Stopped by the store on the way back from the range, this morning.

Only thirty minutes before the rain pushed me out. Enough time to see that 115 grain doesn't cause much more jump when launching them from a 1911.

On the Texas Star - start at the top. THEN Nail the two 'shoulders' as fast as you can and you're home free. The top plates cause the big rotation. If you can get those 1st 3 the off quickly any movement is really minimal and the bottom ones are easy to pick off!!!
