So the video is saying a few things.
1. People are spending too much time with smartphones and similar devices
2. People are too devoted to their jobs
3. See 1 again
Hmm. I'll grant you, watching an entire table stare at their phones over a restaurant meal is disconcerting. It's still a bit of a stretch to say that's what's wrong with society today. Now, Google manipulation and facebook manipulations are serious problems that need to be solved. But compared to the societal devaluation of human life? No, they aren't as big an issue as that.
And the job criticism. Yeah, that part was not convincing at all. I believe humans are made to work. It's been shown that being out of work for an extended period of time is emotionally, psychologically scarring. I've known a couple of people born to leisure. Sounds great, right? Not from what I've seen. Not by a long shot. We are made to strive, to overcome problems, to work toward goals. We need that. Look at the history of completely idle monarchs; Ottoman Sultans and the like. Complete, bat-feces psychos.
Now, if you define your self-worth by the number of zeros on your paycheck, and it drives you out of your mind if you step out on your front porch and see a neighbor with a more expensive car, don't blame that on your job. That's your own messed up priorities. But "you all work too much, and you're just making money for corporations anyway.." is a deeply vacuous criticism of modern society. You make a lot of money working as an HR manager for GE? Well, GE makes CAT scanners that help detect cancer and guide the treatment. Big corporations are a liberal bogeyman for the idiotic reason that it sounds socialist chic to say that.
All in all, I give that video a D+ or C- as explaining the problems in American society today. The cartoons are pretty pithy, but all in all that video doesn't rate the praise I'm seeing. IMHO.
