CHL Qualification Shoot

I used my carry gun at the time. I've changed carry guns, but when renewal rolls around, I'll use whatever I'm carryin'. :thumb:

I used what I was best with, but still get lots of practice with my cc
My instructor asked that we use a gun we planned to carry. So, as I have alternates, I did not decide what to shoot until the day of the class. When I realized we were going to shoot in the rain, I used a semi auto, to speed up my shooting instead of doing 3 reloads, I only had to do one.
I used the only one I had. Which (by default) happened to be my carry gun. :)

In KY you do not have to qualify with the gun you will be using to carry. You do have to use a handgun. But it could be a match grade .22 for all they care. One lady that was taking the course when I did used a .22 revolver.
Most recent qualification was on my M85 backup. Two others qualified with me on the XD40 and we were about out of ammo (and I did not have my 24/7 Pro C). My "proficiency" on timed reloads sucked without any speed-loaders, but my accuracy was dead-on. Surprised me a bit, since the trigger pull was harder than I had remembered (had not shot it much in recent years and has been my stainless backup since '88). If I can duplicate that kinda' placement in real-time, the speed-loaders won't be necessary ;D But then, if I'm on my backup, everything has gone to h3ll already anyway.
In Nevada you have to qualify with all semi-autos you will CC. Each one is listed on the back of your license. You have to pay another $25 to add a new semi-auto to the back of your license. Gosh, thanks Nevada for another fee.

However, you only need to qualify with one revolver and then you are good for all revolvers and derringers, as many as you want. Pretty silly.
Gotta love PA, where the only proficiency you have to show is in spelling your name correctly...and even that may not be a requirement. :-\
Like Smokewagon, I qualified with my carry pistol....1911.
In Utah we do not have to show proficiency. We do have to handle, load, pull the trigger and unload both a semi-auto and a revolver. They use dummy ammo, not the real stuff. We had both men and women that had to be showing how. I hope they go to classes on handgun handling.
Those who chose, What my issuing agency says I have to use. Elaborate please. I may learn something new here. :thumb:
I don't have a proficiency test but if I did I would do it with my carry gun or guns.

Have to shoot with the gun they issued to me, or I can't carry it at work.
You know, that is an interesting point! My LEO son told me repeatedly, that he had to qualify with his duty gun, and any BUGS he was going to carry. That meant he had to qual with 3 guns, a semi auto, revolver, and Derringer. But I can see if the department was going to support and protect him legally he should be qualified to use the weapons he carry's.
In Mn we really don't have to demonstrate proficiency, just the ability to safely handle the firearms and get the rounds downrange. All three times I have used a carry gun (makarov, 1911, scXD).

It was like that in NYC. We had an approved list of off-duty carry guns drafted by Dept. brass. (Horse crap if you ask me) And yes we had to qualify with each gun we would carry.

I like the policy here better. I qualify with my Glock 22 and Glock 27 for on-duty use and can carry whatever I please when not working.
I qualify with what I shoot the best! However, I am confident enough that if I use any of my carry guns I can still qualify just the same. I just want to do my personal best during qualifications. Scored 100% during the last quals. :)

While still on active duty, I only qualified Marksman with the 1911. I qualified Expert Pistol with the M9 and Sharpshooter with the M16. I did not belong to any Specialized Units either. :D
In Colorado I didn't have to shoot because I am in the military and they take that as being proficient.

WAit now, Air Force and shoot does not compute!! Just kidding, but I think you all only have one group that even knows which end the bullet comes out of. The PJ's. Sorry to pick on you, but nobody from the army was around!! "X-Navy here"
Like the Navy is a whole lot better (with exceptions from a couple of unit types)... :D

Ex-Army here!
