I found this complaint on BBB site. So a Rossi revolver can't be replaced by a Taurus... Makes me think I made a mistake sending it in.

02/27/2018
July 2016 sent revolver, ser.#******** for repair. Paid $50 Was informed it was unrepairable, and would be replaced with a new revolver model # ******I purchased the original revolver in Texas in April 2014. I have continually contacted Rossi USA about the status, and over and over told on back order. Today called again and informed they will no longer be manufacturing revolvers and will not replace. Told they are working on a solution that will offer options to people who are Rossi revolver owners and waiting for replacements. Asked what that timetable might be? They could not give me an answer. Just that when they determined what the options would be they would contact me. They have had my revolver for going on 8 months. Beginning to think they are trying to stall until people give up. I want them to replace with a similar revolver (TAURUS) as Braztech owns both Taurus and Rossi, or I expect a voucher for $400 so I can purchase something else similar (357mag revolver).
Desired Outcome
I want them to send me a**** revolver. Either a Rossi ***** or a Taurus 605. if tha cannot be done then I want a voucher for $400 so I can purchase a similar**** revolver from another manufacturer.

BrazTech International L.C. Response

The firearm was received July 2017. Braztech does not own Taurus and Rossi. Taurus and Rossi are completely separate companies, individually owned. Braztech is the FFL entity that is the exclusive importer of Rossi products. Taurus does own the rights to produce Rossi revolvers, however we have no control over the production schedule or discontinuation. Due to this, Taurus products cannot be used to replace Rossi products or vice versa. We do not have a voucher program. We are working diligently to come to a resolution for these customers.

In the beginning of March 2017 I sent the same 462-2 in to Taurus, on my dime, for examination and repair on "the two items of concern...it's locked up and was giving light strikes prior to getting seized?"

After six weeks they returned the gun saying that there was no problem with it. I wonder if they could have saved themselves lawsuits (and millions of dollars) if they had been a little more inquisitive with the issues that my gun had?

Not directly related to a 'repair' - but just this week I HAVE been provided a new Taurus M605 as a replacement for the Rossi R461 which I sent in pursuant to the safety recall last year.

So obviously 'sometimes' Taurus does swap a Taurus revolver for a Rossi, so it 'can' be done.

Well, just to Stir up the pot a little bit… you do know that Rossi has not manufactured a handgun in 20 years. Since the mid nineties the Rossi handguns have been produced under contract to Taurus.

Now Rossi has to buy revolvers from Taurus. No contract. The date of that BBB complaint was around the time (2017) Rossi stopped selling revolvers contracted from Taurus.

From Taurus USA website:
Company

Founded in 1982, Taurus Holdings Inc. is a Florida based holding company which owns some of the most robust firearms brands currently available on the US Market. Taurus Holdings is owned by the famous publicly Brazilian firm Taurus Armas, S.A. Taurus Armas not only builds the firearms for which it is rightfully famous, but also an incredible array of globally distributed consumer and industrial products.

Taurus Holdings manufactures various models of Taurus firearms at it’s Miami, Florida facilities. We employ over three hundred skilled workers and staff, who support manufacturing, importation, service, sales and marketing of Taurus and subsidiary branded firearms.
These brands are:

Taurus Holdings companies manufacture an incredible array of products from traditional single action revolvers, to pistols and revolvers of various designs, and long guns ranging from classic single shots to modern semi-autos.
Taurus International (TIMI) manufactures some models of Taurus brand firearms in the US, and imports the remainder from Taurus Armas. TIMI handles servicing for all Taurus branded firearms in the US either imported or manufactured by TIMI.

Braztech services and imports Rossi branded firearms which are made in Brazil by Taurus Armas.

All Heritage branded firearms are made and serviced in Florida.

Based in Porto Alegre, Brasil, Taurus Armas is a diversified, international company and one of the largest small arms manufacturers in the world. The company produced its first revolver in 1941. In 1970, Bangor Punta, which owned Smith & Wesson, purchased a controlling interest in Forjas Taurus. During the next seven years, a great deal of technology and methodology was passed between the two companies.
In 1974 Beretta had won a contract to produce small arms for the Brazilian Army. The contract required Beretta to build a Brazilian factory and use Brazilian labor. When the contract ran out in 1980, Beretta sold the plant to Forjas Taurus. By that time, Forjas Taurus had new Brazilian controlling owners that had purchased Forjas Taurus from Bangor Punta in 1977. Forjas Taurus now owned everything that once belonged to Beretta, including drawings, tooling, machinery, and employed a very experienced work force. Forjas Taurus was in the pistol business, and immediately sought to improve on the Beretta design, resulting in the popular and acclaimed Taurus PT-92 and PT-99 9mm pistols.
The next milestone for Taurus Armas came in 1982. Taurus Armas formed Taurus Holdings, Inc., in Miami, Florida. Taurus Holdings, in turn formed Taurus International Manufacturing, Inc. The Taurus brand was unknown in the United States at that time. This situation was to change dramatically in the next few years.
In 1984, Taurus Holdings made an announcement that had a tremendous impact on the entire industry. Taurus Holdings became the first company to offer its customers an unqualified LIFETIME REPAIR POLICY. This changed the course of the company in the U.S. market. Only recently has this policy been matched. It has never been exceeded. This innovative policy made everyone sit up and take notice of Taurus brand firearms.
