Hello everyone.....I'm Limey.......I am an English guy living, working and shooting in France. My wife and I emigrated from England six years ago to start our own small holiday business and escape the rat race of England.....perhaps have a look at our website to see what we are up to www.la-janais.com

In England we both shot handguns, rifles and shotguns for many years, we started and ran a gun club plus and we did our own casting and reloading ....then following two very bad shooting incidents in the UK the government banned the legal shooters owning any weapons they considered too dangerous...that was ALL handguns and ALL semi auto weapns above .22lr......the compensation was terrible and like many other law abiding shooters we lost our sport and hobby plus a lot of money.

Sadly, since the ban, gun crime has risen and there are more illegal guns now in England than there were legal guns before the ban......what is it Bill Ruger said.....'if guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns!'

After 3 years of effort I have passed all of my shooting exams and hunt for wild boar and deer with the local hunting team and shoot with the local shooting club........now I am slowly building up my collection of arms and reloading kit.......but there is always too much month left at the end of the money.....but I guess a lot of you know that already!

Safe shooting

Limey,

Welcome aboard mate!! I was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford when the Hungerford massacre occurred. If ever an incident called for a better armed populace, that was it. As I recall, the guy just walked down the center of the street shooting people. He encountered virtually no resistance and the "firearms squad" was 40 miles away at the time. As Robin Williams said - What's a Bobby supposed to do? Yell, "Stop!!.....or...I'll yell Stop again...."?
Of course, they went after the honest, law abiding citizen with a slew of new gun restrictions. What happens next time? the next crazy can act with even less resistance and the honest citizen has no recourse but to rely even more on some distant "squad"!

I have also heard that, after I left England in 1990, property crimes went thru the roof!! A visitor we had from England - and She was from the English countryside - couldn't believe we didn't own "the club" for our car.

Sad what has happened.....

Anyway.... great to have you aboard. My #1 son is a Limey by the way - born in Oxfordshire!!

Welcome aboard Limey, glad you could join us from across the pond. England is magnificently beautiful from the parts I've seen though it is saddening contrast considering how restrictive the laws are there pertaining to firearm ownership. It's heartening to know France's firearm laws are less restrictive as I've read and heard some other European nations are well.

Again, glad to have you with us and I'm sure those of us in the US will appreciate hearing things from your perspective. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Cheers
