I'm biased, but PT140 or PT740 Slim - can't go wrong with either IMO. Slim easier for me to CC, but can do both depending on dress.

Having a PT 640 Pro (similar to the PT140), I personally do not consider it a "sub compact" due to its weight and width.

My 740 is much easier to carry, especially IWB than the 640/140.

Not to start a fight, but my EDC off-duty and BUG is currently a S&W Shield in .40. If you can find one, Academy sells them for $399. Full retail (this price at Gander Mountain) is $449, and includes 2 mags.

While I like both of these .40 Taurus products (640 and 740), the S&W Shield in .40 simple feels better, and has a far superior trigger.
It is almost identical in size to my PT740, and fits the same IWB and tuckable holsters.

All of the above AND the Ruger SR40c - probably my favorite with those qualifications. Last price (when they had stock) at Bud's was $407.

Used S&W M&P - used Glock as well...

I got a CZ75 P-07 Duty brand new, out the door for $425. Best money ever spent on a gun. The Omega trigger is fantastic, and the accuracy is much better than I am. The first run of duty's had issues, but CZ has them all sorted out and the new ones are fantastic. Really, one of my favorite guns.

Larry's in Huntsville just sent out their first sales flyer since this gun control craziness started. I hope that is a good sign of supply catching up with demand.

.40 Compacts (double and single stack mags)

Kahr CM-40: $369
S&W M&P in .40: $449
Sig Sauer 250C in .40: $399
Taurus PT-140: $299

Most of this seems to be sold out on the website, so I am sure this is all "in store sales" only now since the flyer just came out yesterday.

The Kahr prices are the best I have ever seen on these relatively new CM models.

Picked up a Taurus PT 840 C, new in the case, for $380, tax included.
It's slim, fairly light @ 24.7 (imagine that!), and with a little tap of the brass hammer on the rear sights is a tack driver at 15 yards.
It came with two mags - 11 & a 15 w/ a spacer.
While a little longer than my 24/7C w/ a 3.6" barrel, it still fits all my holsters.

It's 1.125" thin at the safety (right hand controls only), 6.625 oal, and 5.5 tall. I'm on the small side at 5'6" and 160, and carry this OTW in a Bianchi Fold-Away wearing a t-shirt and no one knows (only down side is the slide wears a hole in my britches between the from and back pockets). It also has a slightly smaller barrel to palm ratio, so perceived recoil is a bit less than the 24/7C. Also uses Glock style dis-assembly latch.
The safety is also a de-cocker that stops the hammer at half-cock. The only other safety device is the firing pin block. I carry cocked and locked.

I'm a bit old school and prefer hammer fired pistols, so this one suits me right down to the ground. My only complaint is I can't find 11 rd mags for it.

To the OP: Are we talking compact, or sub-compact? (i.e. scaled down 4" gun with double-stack mag, or super small, single-stack "pocket guns"?)

Yeah - the Kahr price is impressive as are all the Kahrs that I have handled or shot over the years. I carry a CW 9 - love it! The Sig is a stud of a gun but the trigger leaves a LOT to be desired - long AND heavy. Follow up shots are a pain - bought and sold one. My .02.

Yep, I'm a Kahr fan too. I've got a CW-40 that I really love. If I'm going for the CM series though, I think it would be a CM-9, not the .40. Too much cartridge in too little grip. That S&W M&P Compact is a very nice little double stack package that is getting a lot of good marks from the LEO community. Sig made those 250's to be modular and in my mind it makes them just too thick for CC. Don't know anyone who really cares for them. Taurus is cutting MilPro prices to clear out old stock with the new MilPro G2 on the market.
