I was wondering if you were to polish the exterior of your barrel if it would make the slide smoother. Also what would be the best way to polish it really good?

Generally, no. Lockup is dependant upon the Locking Lugs and Slide/Barrel Muzzle Fit. Removing too much metal can be too easily done unless you are experienced in Fitting parts. It is better to just let the mating surfaces wear in with regular use along with proper lubrication.ESProctor1 said:

I would not mess with the barrel crown unless there are known accuracy issues, then a re-crown is in order, and then should be done with the proper tooling. I use a round headed brass bolt, whose head diameter is a little bigger than the O.D. of the barrel, chucked in a variable speed drill, and Polishing Compound.
Yes, definately dont take off any meat from the crown. By using the jeweler's polish and a cotton buffing wheel then its only going to bring out the mirror look without altering anything. Its like cleaning the pain on your auto with a buffer...........the clear-coat will remain safe if you know what you are doing.

yeah that is all i was want to do i just thought that it would make it look better but i definitely wouldn't take any meat off for sure.
I tried to take a few pictures of mine so that I can show you, but the pictures are blurred..........camera dont seem to work good at close range. You will love the new look.
I polished my entire barrel and I am 100% happy with the results............entire barrel looks like a mirror. This finish along with the stainless slide and polymer looks fantastic in my opinion............more pimped out and cool.
