Massachusetts is known today for having some of the toughest gun laws. Here's a fun thing to check out: the latest issue of "Guns" magainze (March, 2013) carries an article on the Mass. Militia Act of 1792. The act required EVERY male citizen to have a musket, powder, shot, etc, and when the law was enacted, it gave them only 6 months to comply.

Since everyone in those days needed -- or already had -- a musket or rifle, it was probably not a big hardship. The big contrast to today, of course, is that everyone was REQUIRED to be armed.

Times do change, don't they?
