This has been all over the news in Chiraq land since yesterday afternoon. Early reports stated that the shooter, 45 year old man who was a 15 year employee was terminated last week but brought in for an "exit interview" yesterday. He brought his S & W 40 caliber with him and shot and killed four people in the conference room. He proceeded out into the warehouse and killed one more and then LE got there about six minutes after the first shot was fired. He wounded 4 officers with gunfire, another with shrapnel from some source and another twisted his knee responding. SWAT was brought in and they began clearing the 29,000 sq.ft. building, trying to attend to those shot and found the shooter about an hour after the initial shots. Brief gunfight and shooter was dead with no more LE casualties.

Takeaways to me:

If true that he was fired or suspended prior to yesterday, should have been terminated at that time...any ID taken and escorted from the building.

Shooter was convicted of a felony in MS some 15 years prior and served time. Yet moved to ILLinois and was issued the state ID, FOID card, which allowed him to buy the S & W. A NICS check should have been done for both of those things which should have showed the prior felony conviction.

Shooter applied for a CCW in ILLinois a few years ago. He submitted his fingerprints for that process which then turned up the prior conviction. He was denied the permit and a letter was sent from the State Police that his FOID was revoked and that he should turn in his firearms. He obviously never did this and no warrant was issued or acted upon to seek his firearm. Shooter's rap sheet also shows injunctions issued in domestic violence incidents.

The new ILLinois governor, JB "Toilets" Pritzker delayed the afternoon press conference so that he could get his fat ass chauffeured over to stick his jowls in front of the camera. He made some thinly veiled comment about making ILLinois a "safer place" for families. ...Hey..."Turds" Pritzker...how about enforcing existing laws before you start pandering to make more that won't make a damn bit of difference to criminals?

Oh...and Gabby Giffords also weighed in on the incident...her husband wants to run for the McCain/McSally seat in 2020. So lets stand on the fresh corpses of the victims and make some political hay.

Sounds like Standard Operating Procedure to me. It's so predictable, it's almost boring.
I was surprised to see that it wasn't posted her already.

It's generally a pretty good bet that the bodies will still be warm and oozing when politicians start climbing on them for their ideology.

Weekend at Bernie's has nothing on the metaphorical manipulation of the victims by both the press and the people's representatives.

As far as 'enforce existing laws' goes, that goes against the democrat mentality. They tend to take the approach that if criminals aren't obeying the restrictions they've put in place now, it's just because they haven't found the restriction that works yet.

Probably would have been a far different story if one of the managers in that conference room was armed.

Well, not only was the gun a semi auto pistol, but the shooter had a felony record. So, now, the democrats will be out to "ban assault weapons".

Although the Chief reported that he dropped several magazines, the first target for them will probably be mag capacity over 10 rounds.

Nancy Pelosi when asked yesterday about the wall implied that the border was not a national emergency and that he wanted to declare a national emergency he should do it over all the mass shootings like what took place in Aurora. So she in effect tied two separate and unrelated distortions in one comment. :(

Probably would have been a far different story if one of the managers in that conference room was armed.
If there would've been bullets flying back at him it would've happened in 6 second, not 6 minutes.
I was asked today be someone about this story that if the 5 cops were wounded what chance did a CC have? Having been a LEO and having had dynamic entry and room clearing training, and also force on force CC training, IMO being outside a building and having to enter and find an active shooter among innocent civilians, possible good guy concealed carriers or off duty LEO, etc, and having to react to that is far more of a challenge than for someone who is already inside. The CC is possibly behind cover or concealment, and who is in a far better position to know for a fact who and where the active shooter is. The active shooter can't shoot everyone at once from all directions, and while he's shooting victims A and or B, potential victim C that he doesn't see or doesn't know is armed could be shooting him.

and also mandating "universal background checks on everyone, even relatives". The fact that he may have already had a background check and the prior felony conviction for a violent crime was missed will be ignored, as it doesn't support the narrative. It is as Al Gore says, an inconvenient truth.

Pardon my ignorance, but I did a search that didn't bear fruit, as some say. What is a 420 caliber? Or if it's a model number what is a S&W model 420?

from the cnn news link:

In March 2014, he applied to buy a gun from a dealer in Aurora. After a waiting period and passing a background check that did not involve fingerprinting, he bought the gun, she said.

Later that month, he applied for a concealed carry permit, and a fingerprint check led authorities to discover the Mississippi conviction, Ziman said.
The permit was rejected, and Illinois State Police sent him a letter demanding he voluntarily surrender the weapon, but he did not, the chief said. Investigators are trying to determine why he didn't surrender the weapon and whether law enforcement followed up with him to confiscate the gun.
"He was not supposed to be in possession of a firearm," Ziman said.
So the local authorities and the state knew for almost five years that he was convicted of a violent felony and a prohibited person, and maybe did nothing but send him a letter?

Someone who is anti gun please remind me again how this situation is somehow the fault of Trump, the NRA, the GOA, JPFO, NSSF, or the millions of other law abiding gun owners? Remind me again how this country doesn't have enough gun control laws already when the ones we have aren't being enforced?

First thing is why in the world would a company have a fired employee come back for an "exit interview"? Seriously? I get fired and I'm going back to the company and be nicey nice and give them my polite answers. What a bunch of maroons!

Yep it sure looks like another law or 20 will keep everyone safer! An even bigger bunch of maroons!

The "Toilets" reference is a previous matter where he was caught red handed were he had removed all the toilets in his mansion to make it "unlivable" and obtain a huge tax break because of it. Needless to say when caught he was only given a slap on the wrist and made to pay a fine.

I was in Crystal Lake at the time this happened and didn't find out until 3:30 when I got back home and turned on the news. One of the 1st things that caught my attention was the constant reference being made to the laser light tat was seen. So I am certain this will be the next avenue to explore for a banishment. That these things are just way too deadly to be allowed by the general public.

Lastly I was quite put off by the delay in the news conference report because" we had to await the arrival of the Governor whom wanted to speak on this and then had nothing of import to add other tan to put his face in front of the camera. At this time the bodies were still laying where they fell and the police officers weren't even through with or started in their medical treatments. The blood hadn't even congealed on the ground and the politicians needed their face time.

So at first observation we find that the State of Illinois is as negligent in this as the State of Florida was in the school shooting. They FAILED! HORRIBLY. And now 5 are dead and 7 others physically injured and how many unknown permanently traumatized because of this event? Yet these same career politicians will come forth and demonize guns and gun owners. Of course they will cry forth, "Just one more law" and it will all be fixed until the next deranged broken individual jumps the tracks.

I stated this before and will repeat it again but I am sorry, "the next shooter is already out there in plain sight". We cannot spot him, we cannot detect him, we cannot prevent him we don't know who he is or even if it is a "HE". Who knows that person could be sitting right next to you now.

I watched the first Press Conference after the shooting and I was sickened to see/hear both the Mayor of Aurora and the Governor both make political speeches. Some of the strictest laws in the country but if the process breaks down more laws won't help.

I didn't see anything that would indicate to me this was an exit interview, but simply the firing of an individual with a small number of people present, that being a couple people from HR and his manager. It's not however uncommon to do an exit interview with an employee who's being let go, provided it wasn't directly due to performance issues. At that point HR and management is a lot less interested in what you have so say about the company and the people you worked with and for. As for the left using this as more political theater and fodder, of course they will. 1. It's another mass shooting, which most certainly has become an epidemic in this country and this shoe, like all mass shootings, fits their agenda. 2. It's bad enough to get people that lawfully can purchase firearms and then go off the rails, but this guy beat the system and fell through the cracks. Butts are going to be served up, heads are going to roll. The system should have kept this guy from legally purchasing a firearm, it didn't, people are going to want to why, how, and what needs to be done to see that never happens again. 3. While we might not like it, if this was an illegal alien, wouldn't the Trumpster fire be on his 20th tweet right about now in regards to it as well as every talking head right of center? Of course, and let's not pretend otherwise. If you can use an example to say, "See I told you so!" I don't care what your political leanings you're going to jump all over it. 4. Yes, a handful of idiots are going to say let's ban laser sights. Whatever makes a person more accurate, more "deadly", more comfortable while shooting, is the enemy of anyone who doesn't want anyone outside of law enforcement and the military to have firearms. Typical stupidity, because it's assumed that any time someone is shot by anyone who doesn't fall into one of those two categories is a bad guy, and we not only need to make it more difficult for bad guys to get guns, we need to make guns as hard to operate as possible.

I did a double take when his news broke. The Henry Pratt Company, probably unknown to most people, was our biggest customer at the company I worked at for 25 years. I have been there many times but that was very early 90's. I doubt I would know anybody that's there now. Still a shock to hear their name on the news.

CBS reports that the shooter returned to the company to try and get his job back. He was a 15 year employee so I doubt his termination was a simple reduction in force...wouldn't they let a more junior employee go. "Fired for breaking company rules" just announced.

President Trump sent a respectful message of sorrow to the victims and their families. Not sure where his anger which involves murderers who shouldn't be in this country comes in.

Illinois was already on track to issue a flurry of gun control laws to damage legal gun owners and sellers. This will be used to accelerate and expand those attempts.

Local left wing news here in Florida today made a huge deal over the laser site. OMG! HE HAD A LASER! The implication being that not only was he shooting people but the laser made the weapon somehow a superior killing machine. You'd have thought he was slicing people in half with a high energy laser when you listened to that new story.
