At the edge and on the verge...

...it's gettin' tough, can't fight the urge....had a feeling I wouldn't hold out. Kinda' had my heart set on a High-Point .40 carbine but I'm getting impatient......might need to rethink things. Used to see the .40s everywhere, 'til I decided to get one and now I can't find them anywhere. The .45s and 9mms were still prevalent for awhile but even the .45s are becoming scarce. I don't have anything in 9mm and mostly didn't want to add another caliber. With the .40 a bit cheaper than .45, it seemed the way to go but I'm close to throwing in the towel, seriously considering the 9mm. "Scramble the enablers! This is not a drill!"

At least you're not on the edge of the verge. However, are you sure it's "verge"? I'd be asking the wife who is this "Virg" guy!

My local Dunham's supposedly has them in stock and on sale, according to their website....I have to go right by there tomorrow, the weather's supposed to be windy but decent, I'll have time to hit the range........

When shopping for the High Point carbine, I initially thought about a .45 until I shot some .45 carbines at distance at a range. The fat and slow works pretty well at close distances, but as you get out about 50+ yards, it nose dives pretty quick. The 9 mm is usually about 400 fps faster, and that was a reason I opted for the 9mm, and yes, the 9mm ammo is the least expensive center fire cartridge there is.

I gotta say the 9mm Hi-Point is a great shooter, and reliable. I can hit out to a 100 yards but I think its sweet spot is any distance from point blank to about 50 yards.
I only have the factory iron sights on mine and they work well right out of the box. It has lots of accessories available from MOM and aftermarket vendors and the warranty cannot be beat.
The 10 round mag capacity sucks, but it was born out of Biden's love child AWB from the Clinton era.
As a range toy or a home defense weapon it makes a lot of sense and as others have said 9mm is cheaper and has stayed in decent supply always, with it being a primary military and police round it should stay that way.
So did ya buy it yet?

They were open, I was there, the gun was there, the ammo was there......only one way this could possibly turn out. Beside's, the cat said it was okay.

I'll admit, I was less enthusiastic about the 9 but it's more than I'd expected. The weather went to crap but I took it to the range anyway just to make sure it worked. At least, that's my excuse. It's a Hi-Point, I never had any doubts. Fun li'l gun, for sure and hopefully this is something my wife will shoot too. It's not terribly heavy and the recoil isn't squat, at least at the shoulder. A bit more muzzle jump than I'd expected from a 9mm, this being my first in that caliber.

Stock sights and right out of the box, I was pingin' 4, 5 and 6 inch steel discs on every shot at 35 to 40 yards. I already ordered another red dot, like the one on my TAR12 but I kinda' like the OEMs and they're almost infinitely adjustable. I'll have to see how it does after I get a chance to zero it but it can't be far off as is. I may just go with the opens, maybe add some paint.

Overall, glad I went with the 9mm. Aside from being more economical, I have doubts my wife would like shooting the .40. Anxious to try some nato or +p, nothing readily available in that except the high-dollar defense stuff. I saw that they also make these in .380, which seems almost silly to me but if the 9 is still too much for her, I might have to look into one of those. As for myself, I can already see I'm gonna' have a lot of fun with this thing. It's like the ultimate plinker.

My 110 pound 66 year old wife shoots mine with no problems. The only accessories I have added are two magazines and a magazine clip to hold the two magazines to the skeleton stock. I think I found them on e-bay!

Hard to get my wife to try anything bigger than a .22, she doesn't care for recoil at all. I made the mistake of having her try my Spectrum, which even for just a .380 tends to bite pretty hard. It made her leery of anything bigger. The recoil-absorbing stock works but it's sticky and prob'ly a bit stiffer than it needs to be......gonna' have to play with that.

Definitely need more mags but too many, an' I'll be burnin' through ammo too fast. I wanna' try a vertical fore grip on it, prob'ly add a compensator too. Naturally, the trigger will be formally introduced to Mr. Dremel soon. It's not as bad as the pistols but that li'l hook/point on the end still digs into my finger. It doesn't take much to fix and it makes a world of difference, at least it did for me.

Tinkered a bit with the new toy, tryin' to get that recoil gadget tweaked. I noticed right away that each plunger would catch in a different place when depressing the butt plate evenly. I'd hoped to get it apart and dress all the seams and mold afterbirth on the plungers and tunnels first, then size-up the springs for possible replacement. Problem is, the stock is apparently in two continuous halves and the entire thing would have to come apart, something I don't wanna' do yet.

I did notice that loosening the screws slightly at the rear of the stock, took out some of the bind and all plungers move freely now.

A few drops of oil around each plunger improved the action even more but I think the springs are a bit too stout. I'm thinking I could go to lighter springs, maybe even dual-rate it to absorb more recoil and counter some of the muzzle jump. I have a vertical fore grip on order, supposed to be here tomorrow with the red dot so I'm anxious to see if that makes any difference. It's gettin' a muzzle brake at some point too, as soon as I decide on one. I'm thinkin' about goin' with a "Tanker".

I have the 4095. Bought it last year online for $239. At that price there was no way I could pass it up. Most of my pistols are .40. I like the round.

It's accurate, reliable, not too bad looking, it is somewhat heavy for it's size. The extra weight does help dampen what recoil there is.

I think it was a great investment. Bought two extra mags and a cheap red-dot for it. I also mounted some flip-up iron sights on the right side with some 45 degree rail mounts for WHEN the scope batteries die.

Only issue. The bolt that holds the charging handle on doesn't stay tight. It needs a spot of blue loctite.

My wife won't shoot a pistol in anything larger than .22lr. She absolutely loves my hipoint 995.

All the planets must've aligned today...:)...the weather turned decent, the red dot and grip came in this afternoon and I was able to skate-out a bit early to hit the range for awhile. The loosening of the stock screws and lubing made a world of difference, it's a totally different gun! Apparently the recoil absorber wasn't doin' squat before...;)...it is now. Muzzle-jump went from a lot, to almost nothing. The fore grip seems to help too, as far as getting back on target faster.

Congrats ! I almost went the HiPoint route instead of my PCC, and after going with a AR style PCC, and all the stupid rules they're trying to roll out, I'm kinda wishing I had just gone with the HiPoint. I really like the 9mm in a longer barrel, I think it's a good round for that job. The only other caliber carbine I would probably consider would be a 10mm.

Got to say Hi-Point carbines are kinda like a moped lots of fun but you don’t want your buddies to see you riding it! Just kidding I seriously considered one but as I’m an AR platform fan I plan on building a dedicated 9mm AR9. Congratulations on your urban combat carbine! Semper Fi and Can Do
