A short but accurate article on the difference between .223 and 5.56 and why you should not shoot 5.56 in a .223 chambered firearm.

Wait, does anyone actually shoot 5.56 NATO out of a .223 Remington rifle?

I don't even own an AR-15, nor do I have any interest in ever owning one, (I prefer the AR-10) and even I know that you're not supposed to do that because 5.56 NATO obviously operates at higher chamber pressures than .223 Remington. (Although the reverse is fine.)
I do not have a rifle, but I had to read the article because I like to be a bit smarter every day. Today I am. Thanks for, posting the very informative article.

WHAT! ? We haven't fixed that yet! We enablers are obviously slacking off. :D

Thanks for the article OP...;)
For .223 think varmint rifle, or lightweight 35-55 grain bullets. 5.56mm can handle the longer, heavier bullets much better.
This is why I paid an extra $50 to get a "Wylde" barrel.
This is a barrel designed by Bill Wylde, that is specifically made to handle both rounds without degradation.
I was disappointed that this article didn't reference the Wylde barrel at all.
I would have liked to get the author's critique.
to each their own and I am certainly NOT a black rifle fanatic but.
for my use with a AR-15 anything resembling combat accuracy is just fine with me.
IF I were looking for a long range or varmit caliber it would not be a 223 or a 556 myself.
