How often do you use your SD ammo?
Whenever I get a new gun usually, (I've purchased and sold at least 5 or 6 guns this year, can't remember. LOL 2 in the mail as we speak, one from warranty one from online auction.) when the chambered round is starting to look like it has been chambered too many times, or about a year in gun.

For self defense? Waste of money.
There was a few times I had to pull but they decided it wasn't worth it. I drive through East Cleveland and Euclid to get to work 6 days a week. I drive past where my nephew was shot and killed in his car waiting at the red light. I'll elaborate more below

Any bystanders getting hit, are not from over penetration, they are getting hit by missed shots. You can miss with your SD ammo as well as I can miss with my junk ammo.
Can't argue that one, that's why we train to make more of those shots count. In a months time I will shoot about 800 pistol rounds and maybe (10) 12 gauge 1 oz slugs.
I have expensive gold dot in my edc, mixed with ball ammo. If the Gold Dot gets stopped, maybe the ball can make it. I don't practice with it, waste of money. But I really don't anticipate having to use it.
Nobody does, that's the thing. I've almost died across the world. As for my nephew, he didn't see it coming either. It's only a waste if you are like my nephew where he took 7 of 8 rounds and didn't shoot 1 single shot from his brand new gun. No fancy ammo was used. Part of my process of grievance was to go out and buy the gun he had and see if he could at least return fire. When I'm in the car driving those same streets I have the pocket carry gun (G2 at the moment) in my cup holder and whatever my main is still in my waist band. A gun should be treated as car insurance and a fire extinguisher, You hope you never need it and make sure neither expires while waiting on nothing to happen.

PS: I watch "The First 48 Hours", so I know.
LOL I think we all do. I promise they was alive when I left tho.

Wow, sorry about your nephew. If I had to go through the neighborhood you have to, I might more consider what's in my gun. Here in Florida it's a lot of old people, I'm a youngun at 63. Not a lot of gang activity around me, that I know of. My issue is neighbors. People like to hate me because I'm easy, I don't talk to them, so make up whatever they want, and I don't say a word. I don't have friends, I have enemies and acquaintances. Now I'm more worried about hillary lovers, they are getting violent.

I ran about 200 rounds of the cheapest steel cased winchesters I could find and only had one issue where it didn't discharge the spent casing but it was still loged in the barrel so not sure if that was ammo related or a malfuntion

A year or so ago I had to send my 111G2 in for Taurus to look at - I couldn't stop the stovepipes and other failures to XYZ, and when they sent it back I noted that on their report that they used 124gr ammo to test it. I think they put a mag of it thru, had to problems, and sent it back (hence, nothing mentioned in the paperwork about repairs). This *may* be a sign that they think 124gr is best for the G2/G2C. Just speculation, though.

I carry the Speer GDHP 124gr +P but that’s what we carried when I was on the PD and it works! So I have several boxes and it’s what’s in all my 9mm. Never had any issues and my G2c fed and fired it flawlessly.

My Taurus Millennium G2 PT 111 has eaten all types of ammo I've fed it – 115gr Winchester “Target” FMJ, 147gr bonded Golden Saber, 147gr Federal HST, 124gr and 147gr Lawman TMJ, 115gr Federal “Champion” FMJ. 123gr ZQI “NATO” FMJ and 115gr TULA BrassMax FMJ.

I try to shoot at least a magazine full of 147gr Lawman TMJ because it is very similar in power and hitting POA as my carry load - Winchester 147gr Ranger "T" Series RA9T

I have friend with 2 G2's, they feed anything he puts in the magazine.
I have 2 big brothers, G3's. and they also feed anything.
Edited: He did replace the stock RSA's with after market extra power RSA's.

As the tittle says, what ammunition do y'all recommend? Which is your favorite and why? I wont be shooting any competition, mostly self defense ammo for when I carry and just ammunition for the range. I posted it here because I would think that not all the guns here would be using the same at least grain and such. I know 9mm but that is about it. Thanks in advance! ;D
I would say any 9X19 Luger with gun powder in it. I would use anything except steel case. Also +P+.

Might want to pay attention to accuracy while your shooting. I remember shooting a 1911 one time. My first time out with it I had Winchester White, Remington UMC and Federal. Federal was last, and when I started shooting it, my groups instantly got better, noticeably. I don't recall that happening like that before in a gun, where there was such an instant difference in accuracy. So pay attn to accuracy and if one ammo does better in your gun, that's the ammo you'll have the most satisfying range trips with!

I am a Reloader Magnum Primer - 4.2 Grains ETR7 - I like a Hollow Base Hollow Point bullet just me though

For plink/target same primer magnum/round nose/4 grains ETR7

My g2c mags dont like 9mm ammo that is over about 1.162 overall length as they hang up lengthwise in the mag and wont load in the mag without sticking.
Had this issue with Tula.
1.155 or under is my preferred length for 115 grain

I carry Underwood Extreme Defense in my 9mm G2C. It is does it’s Jon regardless of the barriers it has to go through. Since bone is tough barrier I want a sold bullet that will stay within the 12 to 18 inch FBI standard for penetration but ouch through the bone still achieveung that penetration. Bone can often causes early expansion of HP Nd so the penetration if reduced.

I have posted two links to gel tests by MAC on YouTube. They are both on the longer side but they make a good comparison of the bullet compared to HST HP and ball ammo.

I just got a box of the 9mm underwood 90 grain Xtreme defender and the first time I loaded it it went into battery fine. I used my g2c at the range and i unloaded it to load my fmj. Afterwards I went to load the Xtreme defenders back up and found that they jammed 95% of the time even when I slid the slide forward with my left hand. Pretty upset since It seems to perform awesome in videos. This is the only ammo that has jammed in my g2c so far and I've loaded a handful of different hollow points in it.

Wasn't going to post but since the zombie thread was revived anyway, since I got a G2C I've had a neighbor who will give me various types and brands of factory ammo for testing after he tests some in his (perfection) glock. I guess he was hoping to see it fail as hes not exactly a Taurus fan. I've shot everything from 50 grains to 147 grains, no problems, it's so far just as reliable as his Glock. I've even mixed different weights, bullet shapes, and loads in the same magazine. He's still not convinced that the G2C is a good gun, thinks I got a unicorn, figuratively speaking.

Mine has never had a problem with any ammo, Over 1000 rounds and never had a malfunction. It's my only gun that has done that. Thinking about not cleaning it for a while just to see how long it can go.
I have deliberately gone over a thousand rounds in a G2 without a hitch (all brass cases). I've shot a lot of aluminum and never had a problem with it, but I prefer brass and stay away from steel.

In my three G2 pistols, heavier bullets are consistently more accurate and feel better than lightweight bullets. The sweet spot appears to be 124gr. I suspect the benefit is that shorter barrels get a benefit from heavy bullet loads.

I have a G2C and a G3C. I have fired factory FMJ, Hollow Points, and several varieties of reloads, including some cast bullets. Have about a thousand rounds through the G2C and about 300 through the G3C. I have had NO failures at all. Very reliable weapons. For carry/defense, I use Underwood Critical Defense in both guns. I would recommend that for range ammo, use the cheapest that you can get that is reliable.

SO, just to add to your choices...I am a prolific shooter, club competitor and defense instructor in North Alabama. I bought my G2 at the NRA Annual meeting and never looked back. I am not recoil sensitive but I want to be able to make reasonably fast follow on shots. SO I tested my G2 with all different weights, including 147grn. Well, on a lark, I decided to see what the difference in recoil was between the 147grn HST and 147grn HST +P. The G2 liked the standard pressure stuff and shot to point of aim. SO I tried a mag full of +P and guess what? Only minimal increase in felt recoil. Not bad or punishing at all. I think the slightly fatter grip spreads the impulse across a broad enough area to make the recoil more than manageable. But the bonus was a 2.5 inch offhand group to point of aim at 20 yards. I installed TFX sights and put the rubber grip wrap on mine also. So I almost exclusively carry the G2 with 147grn +P HSTs on board. Why go fast when you can go faster? So 147grn +P HSTs for me thank you!
Exactly brother, why go fast, when you can go faster. My Teammate J and both picked up the G2 on a win. To try out as an EDC. Since we're competitive against each other by nature of making each other better. We had consistently tried and tried to find something we both liked better than P226 or 1911 for an EDC. Although we'd both had great success and performance outta each in actual combat. The 1911 given its size is a little cumbersome for concealed carry in my opinion. The G2 ended up being a great gun for EDC, And never had any problems with ammo as far as the G2 is concerned. I've run several hundred rounds through it. And since Memorial Day just passed and lost my boy J last year. Wanna give a shout out of remembrance for my brother. I love and miss you man. Enjoy heaven brother, you've served your time in hell.
