As the title says, what ammunition do y'all recommend? Which is your favorite and why? I won't be shooting any competition, mostly self-defense ammo for when I carry and just ammunition for the range. I posted it here because I would think that not all the guns here would be using the same at least grain and such. I know 9mm but that is about it. Thanks in advance! ;D

My PT111 G2 I had ate just about everything I ran through it. I even ran some steel Tulammo through it, but it wasn't more than 50 or so rounds. I swear by Federal. Federal. Again, Federal Champion; Walmart special 115 gr FMJ. I also exclusively ran the JHP Walmart Special, Remington UMC 115 gr JHP which was about $30 per 100, and no issues. It only failed to eject one time of the 1,500 rounds I ran through it in like 5 months, and can't even remember which ammo it was.

My New G2C hasn't made it to the range yet. Will rep back when I get the first 1 or 200 down the pipe. :)

Got back from the range today and a really good failure drill ammo to use is the Winchester USA Forged stuff. The G2 ate most of it before some rounds would slow down the slide drag or have soo much friction they didn't make it all the way out the magazine. I will say the gun held up way better than my 469 did. Only my G17 can go 100% though the 250 box no issues.

list of stuff that worked for me in the G2 was:

Aguila 115 & 124 FMJ and 147 FMJFP
Winchester White box 115 FMJ
Winchester White Box 147 JHP
Remington UMC 115 FMJ
Freedoms Munitions 115 FMJ
Blazer 115 FMJ aluminum and brass
TulAmmo 115 FMJ
Midwest 115 JHP
Midwest 115 JHP
Perfecta 115 FMJ
Sig Elite 115 FMJ
Sig 365 115 FMJ
Sig 365 V Crown 115 JHP
Sig V Crown 124 JHP
Federal HST150 JHP

Stuff that didn't work out so well:

Hornady Critical Duty 135 JHP +P with Flexlok - The flexlok tips were not going up the feed ramp at all. tried another box and even the non +p ones.
Winchester USA Forged 115 FMJ - FTF,FTE

The "only" ammo my PT111 G2 has had a problem with is Winchester White Box.

I shoot primarily Federal Champion 115gr Brass for practice and Hornady Critical Defense for SD.

My G2C has had only the Federal Champion and Hornady Critical Defense through it.

That's all fine and dandy if you are a murder and could care less about over penetration and bystanders. When the rounds and barrel size are paired correctly those magical expensive thingies become boat anchors when they hit meaty objects. It works out better than just zipping though completely and not dumping energy. The goal of blood loss is gonna happen either way with both bullets that touch the original target. Only one is going to severely lessen the chances of going though the perp and into a bystander who only wrong doing was standing where they were oblivious to life alerting events to follow.

If cost is the issue then HST is the cheapest repeatable reliable one out there. For me and my guns, some work/feed better than others. This is why you can't shoot 3 rounds of SD ammo and call it a day. Critical duty works in all my guns except the G2 even after the entire barrel was polished.

How often do you use your SD ammo? For self defense? Waste of money. Any bystanders getting hit, are not from over penetration, they are getting hit by missed shots. You can miss with your SD ammo as well as I can miss with my junk ammo. I have expensive gold dot in my edc, mixed with ball ammo. If the Gold Dot gets stopped, maybe the ball can make it. I don't practice with it, waste of money. But I really don't anticipate having to use it.

Whenever I get a new gun usually, (I've purchased and sold at least 5 or 6 guns this year, can't remember. LOL 2 in the mail as we speak, one from warranty one from online auction.) when the chambered round is starting to look like it has been chambered too many times, or about a year in gun.

For self defense? Waste of money.
There was a few times I had to pull but they decided it wasn't worth it. I drive through East Cleveland and Euclid to get to work 6 days a week. I drive past where my nephew was shot and killed in his car waiting at the red light. I'll elaborate more below

Can't argue that one, that's why we train to make more of those shots count. In a months time I will shoot about 800 pistol rounds and maybe (10) 12 gauge 1 oz slugs.

Nobody does, that's the thing. I've almost died across the world. As for my nephew, he didn't see it coming either. It's only a waste if you are like my nephew where he took 7 of 8 rounds and didn't shoot 1 single shot from his brand new gun. No fancy ammo was used. Part of my process of grievance was to go out and buy the gun he had and see if he could at least return fire. When I'm in the car driving those same streets I have the pocket carry gun (G2 at the moment) in my cup holder and whatever my main is still in my waist band. A gun should be treated as car insurance and a fire extinguisher, You hope you never need it and make sure neither expires while waiting on nothing to happen.

LOL I think we all do. I promise they was alive when I left tho.

Wow, sorry about your nephew. If I had to go through the neighborhood you have to, I might more consider what's in my gun. Here in Florida it's a lot of old people, I'm a youngun at 63. Not a lot of gang activity around me, that I know of. My issue is neighbors. People like to hate me because I'm easy, I don't talk to them, so make up whatever they want, and I don't say a word. I don't have friends, I have enemies and acquaintances. Now I'm more worried about hillary lovers, they are getting violent.

A year or so ago I had to send my 111G2 in for Taurus to look at - I couldn't stop the stovepipes and other failures to XYZ, and when they sent it back I noted that on their report that they used 124gr ammo to test it. I think they put a mag of it thru, had to problems, and sent it back (hence, nothing mentioned in the paperwork about repairs). This *may* be a sign that they think 124gr is best for the G2/G2C. Just speculation, though.

My Taurus Millennium G2 PT 111 has eaten all types of ammo I've fed it – 115gr Winchester “Target” FMJ, 147gr bonded Golden Saber, 147gr Federal HST, 124gr and 147gr Lawman TMJ, 115gr Federal “Champion” FMJ. 123gr ZQI “NATO” FMJ and 115gr TULA BrassMax FMJ.

I try to shoot at least a magazine full of 147gr Lawman TMJ because it is very similar in power and hitting POA as my carry load - Winchester 147gr Ranger "T" Series RA9T

I would say any 9X19 Luger with gun powder in it. I would use anything except steel case. Also +P+.

Might want to pay attention to accuracy while your shooting. I remember shooting a 1911 one time. My first time out with it I had Winchester White, Remington UMC and Federal. Federal was last, and when I started shooting it, my groups instantly got better, noticeably. I don't recall that happening like that before in a gun, where there was such an instant difference in accuracy. So pay attn to accuracy and if one ammo does better in your gun, that's the ammo you'll have the most satisfying range trips with!

Wasn't going to post but since the zombie thread was revived anyway, since I got a G2C I've had a neighbor who will give me various types and brands of factory ammo for testing after he tests some in his (perfection) glock. I guess he was hoping to see it fail as hes not exactly a Taurus fan. I've shot everything from 50 grains to 147 grains, no problems, it's so far just as reliable as his Glock. I've even mixed different weights, bullet shapes, and loads in the same magazine. He's still not convinced that the G2C is a good gun, thinks I got a unicorn, figuratively speaking.

I have a G2C and a G3C. I have fired factory FMJ, Hollow Points, and several varieties of reloads, including some cast bullets. Have about a thousand rounds through the G2C and about 300 through the G3C. I have had NO failures at all. Very reliable weapons. For carry/defense, I use Underwood Critical Defense in both guns. I would recommend that for range ammo, use the cheapest that you can get that is reliable.

I don’t have the G3 but I can tell you that my PT111 G2 has eaten up everything with a brass case (FMJ and JHP) that I have tried over the last 10 years. I mean everything from Winchester white box, perfecta (Walmart ammo), monarch, Remington UMC, sierra, blazer and many others. It doesn’t make a difference. I have never run steel casings so I can’t speak to those…
