A great day at the range and some fancy shootin'! Sounds like a good day.
All the 1911 talk made me go to the range this afternoon.
Well, I've not played with any of my "Old School" .45 ACP pistols in a while. Also all the talk about 1911's necessitated a range trip this afternoon.
First up is my PT1911 I bought from a friend that needed $300 and that is what I gave him. 10 yards 24 rounds about as fast as I could and stay on target. This 1911 surprised me early on on how smooth and accurate it is for an "off the shelf" 1911. I don't think I did too bad at shooting it today.

Second up is a AMT Hardballer I picked up last weekend. It cost me $300 as well. My accuracy at 10 yards left a little to be desired compared to the PT1911. However, I do enough shooting to know that the pistol really wasn't the problem. I kept losing the front sight as it was "black on black" for the sight picture. The Taurus has the figure 8 setup, and easy to keep track of, again 24 rounds as fast as I could and stay on target.

Next, my .45 ACP Witness. I bought this for $345 OTD at a local shop, a 15 years ago. I'd sold my 10mm Witness for $475 and bought this one. I always do well with CZ style auto's. All shooting at 10 yards.

What can I say? Only the Witness came with an instruction manual! 
Besides, I can thank the "Cooper" on my learning about CZ. Back in the mid 80's I got a lecture in front of a lot of people by him about 9mm and shooting a 9mm as my tactical gun for IPSC, and worse a Beretta 92 as well as a Taurus PT92. I still wish I had both of them. I sold both because they "Key holed" with cast bullets at that shoot and the dissing down I got contributed to it. The Beretta safety contributed to the issue in no small part. I later learned my hard cast bullets were pure lead, too soft for 1:10 twist. However, he mentioned the CZ75 if I had to use a 9mm.
I learned quickly that no such pistol was imported into the US at the time. FIE and Star came in at that point. With Star and the 30m and FIE the TZ75. The 30m was good, but I hated the safety like the Beretta. The TZ was my first Tanfoglio, and had the same style safety as the Star. The TZ pointed great and was accurate, but the safety ruined it. I was too use to a 1911 safety. A year later I shot my first CZ that came here via Canada. I was hooked!
I still think Cooper was wrong on 9mm and refused to see the possibilities. Winchester's Silver Tips, and Federal Hydra-Shock ammo was already changing the playing field as well as the Hornady XTP. He was on the money with CZ. I think if he was honest with himself, he would liked Tanfoglio as much. They made the Bren-10 concept a reality.
