Jefferson County Domestic Relations Judge Suzanne Childers was hearing a child support case a few weeks ago when she became afraid for two female attorneys in the courtroom and set off her panic device.

It took 40 minutes before anyone arrived in response to her call, Childers said. That response time worries the judge, who was already concerned about security cutbacks at her courthouse.

She had become so worried, in fact, that this fall she got qualified to bring a gun to court. "I wish I didn't have to carry a gun," said Childers, who has contacted the sheriff and county commissioners with her concerns… (When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.)

Good for her!! Lots of detractors in the comments section but they are just like all the other "gun fearin' folks" out there - uneducated about what they are commenting on.

Deciding to carry for protection is akin to someone deciding to begin start driving their own vehicle after using public transportation. They would take some driving courses, obtain their driving license (which requires passing a state administered test - often after being a monitored/learner for a year) then buy a vehicle which met their needs and begin driving. Would the same folks who commented negatively about the gun then admonish her for taking the dangerous and potentially deadly path of driving her own car around town and to work?
