The Romanians are fine if all you want to do is spit bullets out. But there is something out there now called an STG 2000 that's an ak with plastic stocks that is getting good reviews. They have a US internals and the barrels actually new made. Shotgun news advertises em for around $378 which is not much more than a Romanian, but a lot better gun.

when you get an AK do it up right... This started life as a Romanian kit, and easily accurate to 300 yards and a tad more if your lucky. :p

I have a Saiga in .223 and it's been a fantastic rifle in terms of sturdiness, accuracy and reliability. The price was also right at under $300. While they don't come from the factory with the traditional AK look, they can be modified as many have done. In fact I've even seen specimens on gunbroker where the seller did the mods themselves before placing the rifle up for sale.

If you're curious, check 'em out. :D

it's not that i dont like rifles i actually do but i find my self always walking out of shops with hand guns for some reason.

have you made the mod to convert your Saiga to use standard AK mags? If so is it hard?
I haven't attempted it with the .223 and I'm uncertain if I will. It will come down to the availability of .223 AK magazines and if I can procure some. When I get a Saiga in 7.62x39 I'm going to try my hand at the mods then.

According to threads I've read on the Saiga forum and elsewhere, the modifications appear to take little time to complete.

My Romanian wasr shoots great. I've shoot it at 300 meters and hit silhouette targets very consistently. The rifle has never jammed or failed to fire. I've added a compensator to it mainly for the looks, because I can't really tell if it tames the recoil or not . it feels the same to me.

Me personally, I would spend the money and get a Yugo M70 AK47. I know a lot of people like them, but I avoid the Romanians/WASRs.

SAIGA.... After years of playing with AK-47's and variants, I have to say that the SAIGA's are the best quality of any AK sold in the USA. They come in a variety of calibers and you can modify the Saiga's just like any other AK and the Saiga is made in a former Soviet arms plant in Russia (izhmash).
