Aftermarket (Roguard) refinish of PT1911 slide-UPDATE w/PICS

For whatever reason my edit to the title of my original post (Aftermarket finish won't stick to Taurus...?) wouldn't show on the main PT1911 forum page, so I'm posting this for anyone interested in the outcome of that refinish who didn't notice my follow up post a few days ago.

I received the slide back from Robar last week. Total time from drop of with USPS to arriving back at my door was 26 days, about half of the time originally quoted. I'd say the finish is really flawless. I'm a tad OCD and can usually spot something, however minor or nit-picky, but not on this particular job. My only concern was that maybe I should have gone with satin over matte because it's really pretty flat, but I've come to like it and it is pretty close to the flat factory finish that's on the frame and was on the original slide in terms of sheen (the Roguard is way nicer and smoother, and probably won't wear through from a cleaning with a plastic pick, as happened on my other Taurus). The grips are from Raasco Grips, which came to me a little too shiny and strangely with a different level of shine on each grip. I've sprayed them with 2 different brands of matte/flat clear, and they're still not flat enough for my tastes. Anybody know of a truly flat finish I can spray on them, please let me know.

I can't help you with the shiny grip issue but the gun sure looks good.

Engine paint. OK I'm kidding.

I found some Rustoleum clear coat designated as "Dead Flat" which tamped down the shine a bit more. I think you're looking at the final product here:

Very nice looking pistol I hope it holds up well for you. All of my pistols are less than four years old and starting to show some holster wear plus a few minor scratches from use but I think they will need to see more use before I sorry about it but that would seem to be the place to send them if they get to the point of a refinish thanks for sharing
I am very curious about this finish myself. Looks good! Would love a report back on how well it wears. That is the real key of course.

I have an original Series I Kimber that started life as an all stainless pistol. I had it coated by Robar with Roguard on the frame and slide and NP3 on the controls and pins. Came out looking great. I used that pistol in quite a few IDPA matches and the finish held up very well. After a few years though, there were small chips where the brass flew back while exiting the port. I took it to Robar, I live 2 miles from them in Phoenix, and asked them if this was covered by the lifetime warranty. They confirmed that it certainly was and that they'd be happy to reapply the finish. I then asked if the slide could be done in the silver NP3 since it was the same price. No problem. Turned out great. They bead blast the old finish and then re-coat. The new finish has held up very well with just some holster wear at the muzzle, which is not too noticeable since the original stainless is what shows through.
I've used Robar on a couple of pistols and have always been happy with the results.

Nice finish! Is that EDC?
I'm liking that very much.

A set of these grips would look amazing on that:
