Excuse my ignorance, but what is it?
Some of us (me) don't know every rifle in existence.

I think it is an M14 which is a derivative of the M1 Garand.

I like it, too. Congratulations. And I'll echo the above sentiment: What is it? (For those of us who don't know.)

Very nice rifle, I would love to add some more old military rifles to the safe, my Mosin is lonely!

Yes, sorry I didn't mention it. I hate to seem like I am gloating. I'm just so excited and truly thankful for the opportunity to own it.

It's a Springfield Armory US Rifle M1A Scout Squad chambered in 7.62x51 NATO.

I'm getting a walnut stock set (complete with metal) hand picked from the CMP to augment the synthetic stock it'll wear on my job.

I'm just so thankful and humbled.

The M-14 has a full auto selection.

The semi-auto version is the M1-A and this is an M1-A SOCOM (short barrel version)

That is a great battle rifle, I'd like to have one....around $1,700 depending on how they are equipped.

I once had a really nice Marlin 336C 35 Rem that I bought from an old hunting buddy. Unfortunately, Jim has passed and I sold it years ago. I wish I had the 336 back in honor of his memory.
