Academy is sneaky...
Went to my local Academy and I was just gonna check out the lack of ammo. Well I round the corner and what do ya know!? I see packed shelves! I'm all excited, doing my little victory dance in my head ....... then I realize what they had done lol they filled the shelves with the same 5-6 brands of shotgun ammo. And in a lonely corner I see all their rifle and handgun ammo... all whopping 15 boxes of miscellaneous calibers and brands. Darn you Academy! I thought I would be going home with my 3 boxes of ammo today.... oh well, it is what it is

Retail 101: Empty shelves = Bad! Fill them with something.
Academy put the good stuff (anything pistol and AR Loads) up front at customer service.. Been that way for about a month now.
They need to fill the shelves with something, so their reorganization of the ammo shelf is understood.

Cabela's did they same thing, kind of, a couple weeks ago. They had hundreds of boxes of 7.62 X 54 spread all over their shelves to coverup the absence of dozens of calibers no longer in stock.
And in display cases that once held a couple dozen semi-automatic pistols, they now have two or three lever action rifles.

Might as well stock up on the shotgun ammo now - it's next on the hit list.
Same everywhere. The local Walmart had 8 boxes of rifle ammo (243, 270, 30-30), no handgun ammo, no .22 ammo. Dick's is out of ammo. The closest Bass Pro Shop in Myrtle Beach, SC has tons of 12 Gauge target loads. Some of the local gun shops have a small amount of ammo that they bought out from the Walmarts, prices jacked up 300%.

Right - was confused as to why Gander Mountain had shelves full of empty 30 cal ammo cans selling for all different prices ... finally dawned me that the ammo cans were place holders for the OOS ammunition. 
Thanks for reminding me to get some 12ga shells next week.Might as well stock up on the shotgun ammo now - it's next on the hit list.

I stock up on 12g slugs when I can't get any .357 magnum or 9mm on my weekly search. Cause cassrh might be right
My walmart did the same thing to me. I walked up and was surprised at the stocked shelf thinking i hit paydirt on recieving day. nope just 12 G shells.
Holy LORD, those are the EXACT FOUR SHOTGUNS I'd want if I had the disposable income.Just to let you guys know. Shotguns are fun! If you don't have one. Get one! Or four.

Happening all over the place no ammo to be found to speak of.
Same here, & been that way for awhile too. I did get lucky a few weeks ago & got to Academy after they got an ammo shipment in. I was finally able to pick up 1 box of 250 rd 9mm & 250 rd 40s&w. They limit the boxes to 1 per cal & 3 boxes total per person per day, so I got my limit on 9mm & 40.
Monday, Weds and Sat around here. They had a few buckets of 22lr, at least 2 mondo boxes of 9mm for $239, a bunch of Rem 5.56 ($9.99) and UMC .223 ($7.99) both in 20 rds boxes and all kinds of 40 cal. at our local store
