Howdy all I just found the forum a couple weeks ago and finally had something to say.
I picked up a used 85UL in stainless last week and took it out today.
Not a bad shooter at all. Shot some mild 158grn SWC reloads and my carry ropund which is the old 158grn LSWHP. Nothing carzy.
Recoil wasn't bas at all. Hit what I was aiming at. I must confess I shoot more for practical accuracey than groups so I can't tell you much about that.
It has Houge wood grips that have a real nice color and grain. I thin it will fill my "need" for a light small off-duty gun.

On to another gun,,,HAHA. I shot my friends 9mm "85" sorry I don't know the model number. Not as much fun. Recoils wasn't too bad but it was kind of "sharp". It had the original rubber grips. Shot well though.

Congrats on your fine purchase! If you ever decide to post pictures of your new 85UL, we have a gallery section for just that [as well as some sub-galleries for other non-Taurus firearms]

I see this is your first post as well so let me welcome you to the forum and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. :)

Where are our manners? ??? ::) Welcome to the forums

Do have the older 85CH.That 85 should last you a long time. That's one of the more popular revolvers here. For that matter for the general public as well.

Many of the police trainers and shooting school trainers see the 85s come through in droves or recommend them for CCW and or for backup carry.
The 85 was one of the several types that are the flagship models.
A little light reading or also known as a blast form the past.

Have to give a range report, please, when you can. We just love juicy range report details ;D

I just bought a used one like yours for about $250 from my local dealer. It's great! Next time I go to the range, I have to remember to take my Chrony, though.

That would be the 905. I believe it's actually discontinued now. (Quite recently I might add) I'm interested in a revolver chambered in 9mm so if anyone has one..... I'm right here. :)

I chono'd my carry load out of a full weight model 85 w/ 2" barrel and got 875 fps average velocity. That was with 5.3 grains of Winchester 231 recommended by Jan Libourel when writing for G&A many years ago. That was with a 158 gr Speer swchp. It might be kind of hard recoiling for the UL, out of the heavy gun (23 oz.) its not bad. Thomas.
