709 wind age adjustment question

708 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Wino
Grouping about 1 or 2 inches left at 10 yards. I turned the windage (front) screw about 3/4 of a turn clockwise. How much should this move the POI @ 10 yards?

My take is, try it and see. Just make sure your distance and sight picture are as consistent as possible.
Yes, this is a "your mileage may vary" case.

I would caution you to do these sight adjustments using a benchrest position, and make sure you are using just the pad of your finger on the trigger.

Shooting from a sandbag rest will give you a true picture of what the 709 is doing in terms of POI while taking the shooter out of the equation. Without the rest, you are just adjusting your sights to your shooting for that particular day.
I seem to be chasing the sights too. I am shooting about three inches left and two inches low at about 20 feet from the target. I had to tighten my reaar sight as new it was loose enough to almost fall off. I centered my rear sight base and tightened it down and started by centering the rear sight in the base. Even with adjustment with moving the rear sight to the right at full adjustment it still is hitting to the laeft. I will try it off the bench next week and see what comes from it. To have the sight loose upon purchase new is a real disheartening ordeal. I do like the pistol for what I will use it for. If I could only shave a little off the bottom of the trigger guard I would be good. Overall I really like the gun. Seems to be a lot of value for the price. Hopefully I can get this thing dialed in before it costs more than the gun in ammo.. LOL.
