Stopped by a local gun store today and was told the 709 Slim had been discontinued. Anyone know if there's any truth to this? I hope not, unless they are coming out with something better.

There have been posts to those rumors. There is somewhat of a rumor that the pt111g2 will soon be discontinued. I speculate that this would mean that they will bring a version of the TS here. I also speculate that if the 709 is discontinued, they plan on chambering a version of the Spectrum in 9mm.

There's still plenty of 709's out there but they may be coming to an end. If you want one, get one now. I think a good indicator is if you start seeing them in the CDNN emails at a real low price.

I started a thread on this subject a while back -- the same scenario exactly
I went back to the same dealer to confirm all of it and they told me Taurus put it back on their site , I got home and they did , for some reason Taurus took the 709 off their site then put it back on ??????

I really think Taurus would screw up by discontinuing the 709 and 111 G2

I noticed that the 2018 Taurus catalog is now up on their website but the 709 isn't included. It is however still on their website for the time being. I also suspect that a 9mm version of the Spectrum would be a logical replacement.

Historically, whenever the prices of a particular Taurus handgun model begins to nose-dive, the company is in the process of discontinuing the firearm.

When I recently saw a Taurus Millennium G2 PT140 stainless on sale for $189.00, I bought one to go with my stellar G2 PT111. It would be a shame to discontinue the Millennium line, but I fear that is the course they are taking.

The highest price I have seen currently (Jan 2018 ) is from ClassicFirearms at $319. So the price goes from $170-$319. That is is a large spread. Do your homework before buying one.
That being said, I like mine for what it is....a simple, slim, easy to carry everyday firearm.
Thanks!

BUT would a 9mm version have the same trigger that's on the .380 Spectrum?

I hope not.

Still 90+ 709's on Gunbroker as of today and 77 of those were "Factory New"

Is is typical that they remove models from the "Official Catalog" but continue to show them on the website?

It appears the model 85 revolver isn't in the new catalog either...

I'm a fairly new guy to the forum, so just wondered if this is typical.

Firearms tend to be available in new condition for at least a couple years after being discontinued, and that's with big name brands with positive reputations.

You can still find Taurus 800 Series pistols available in new condition, and they were discontinued years ago.

Taurus will likely come out with a 9mm Spectrum to replace the 709 soon enough.

The PT111 G2 , PT709 and TCP . All have been a stellar perfromers for Taurus.. alot of anti Taurus guys own'em ... I feel they have kept Taurus afloat ( along with the 85 & 605 ) during thr lawsuit/recall ..

I hated to see the TCP replaced by the Spectrum.. and now if the PT709 is replaced .. It will be sad ..and a bad corporate move ...

right2arms...Thanks for the heads up! Wondered why he never picked up a 709 previously. And that new Ruger seems interesting. Looking forward to what he has to say.

Hickok45 has openly said he will not do a negative video on any firearm. He simply just does not post them. So he either does not care much for Taurus or has just not been happy with them. I think I can only remember him doing a video on the PT-111 G2, the Judge, and a .22 revolver Model 94 I believe. When S&W came out with the Governor he quickly jumped on that over the Judge. Take it how you will, I really don't know what to think about it.

I also was surprised to hear him mention the 709 last night while listening to him.

My 2 709's are keepers. But don't know why Taurus went with the various frame pin designs: some have 2, some have 3, others have 4 frame pins. And I think the overall design/shape of the gun looks most like a S&W 3913 Lady Smith.

GrabaGun still has them at 199.00 for how long I don't know , as of today they were there, and a few 111g2's , if I had the extra cash would flip for one , getting ready to move, Have to curb My appetite,

I don't recall any gun manufacture stopping production or sales of weapons until a recall was finished?
simply doesn't make business sense, also what are the other employees not directly involved in a replacement/recall suppose to do?
I believe the replacement/recall is being handled through Miami.
so everyone basically in Brazil ain't gonna stop work.
