Hey,

I know the 651 comes with ribber grips from the factory which help tame the .357 recoil.

Has anyone tried the Hogue Monogrip on their 651? How about Pachmayrs? Taurus also offers (I think) some rubber combat grips.

In brief, who has found and used a good "recoil tamer" ribber grip on their 651.

Thanks,

Mike

I don't think the Ribber grip will fit on the small frames like a 651. If they do I'll be ordering one for my 650. As far as I know they're only for the Trackers and the 617/817 frame size (which may include some of the older 44spec/45 Colt/45acp 5 shot guns too).

I have a Pachmayr Compac that works well for me when shooting full power magnums in my 650 so it should work just fine with a 651 or 605.

I just got a Monogrip but haven't made it out to try it and with deer season going on in these parts its going to be a while before I can make it out again.

I haven't been impressed with the recoil taming qualities of the current 2 rubber-type OEM grips on the small frame guns. Years back there was a softer rubber 3 finger grip for the 605's that worked well.

This might give you some help in finding Hogue grips that will fit your revolver.

I put the Taurus Combat Grips on my 605. It feels fine for me shooting 357 Ammo.

I'm still puzzling over an article referred to in another thread. In the article an "expert" declared that the pinky should exert no pressure on the grip. Having a wide hand I feel ridiculous holding a gun with 1 1/2 fingers hanging off in nowhere, and I really can't figure the notion of not using your pinky.

I don't know that a pinky position will help with recoil so much as reduce the amount of barrel flip due to the increased leverage provided. I noticed this with my subcompact XD, normally I use the short grip with minimal pinkie space. When I shift to a mag with the grip extension the amount of flip was reduced. And for reference, I was using the same ammo.

There are many people who claim to be an "expert". The term "ex-spurt" might be closer. Another forum I'm on has a rule of "no experts allowed". Many there have far more knowledge than I have and could honestly use the term to describe themselves. But we're all still students. When someone stops learning, they're either dead or fooling themselves and others (or trying to).
