For you guys who have experience with the 24/7 and the PT1911 line of pistols. What are your thoughts on the reliability/functionality/coolness of these two pistols? I am saving up and will only be able to buy one of these this year so I keep debating back and forth. I already own a Glock 17 and a Sig 9mm and am going to pick up a 45acp. The 24/7 Long-slide 45 looks like a fun pistol, plus I get 10 rounds in the magazine, on top of that it is going for $350 shipped to my FFL from Buds. On the other hand, the Taurus 1911 Stainless with the Bullshead grips is one of the best looking pistols out there (IMO) and is a pretty good deal with the extras (beavertail, front serrations, front stap checkering & ambi saftey. The stainless finish on this one was pretty bad a** too. The drawback is the 8 round vs 10 and the 1911 is about double the price. What do you guys think?

Well PacketStorm welcome to Taurus Armed!

Secondly, I would have to ask what you are going to use the .45 for. For CC I would go with the 24/7 because of the size. For range plinking, go with the 1911. Both are great guns.

Thanks. I'm thinking that I would be using the pistol for the Range, Home Defense and it would come along on hunting/camping/fishing trips. I've got the smaller Sig for concealed carry and the standard sized Glock 17. I'm looking for something with a little longer barrel, so the long slide or the 1911 seem like a good fit.

Very nice. Seems to be there are two different stainless 1911 models out there. Your model seems to be more of a matte finish the other is more of a shiny steel finish. Is this the case, or is it just the angle of the photo?

Here is one of the other Taurus Armed members 1911. It has the shiny finish on the sides of the slide and grip.

What is the trigger like on the 24/7 Pro? I heard some reviews that it is very long reset...
The reset is rather short. There is some take up on the trigger in DA.

Easy Answer - Buy Both!

But Seriously, I have the .45 24/7 OSS Longslide and it's been great. It truly is a no-nonsense Combat Pistol. With the 24/7 you will have more choices in trigger operation. Trigger Pull will be a bit stiffer to start off with, but will wear in nicely.

You won't go wrong with a PT1911 either!

Then again, you should consider which gun actually fits you the best and go with it!

All the opinions on this board should only half apply to your decision, and I bet you'll have a really hard time getting a straightforward, one or the other answer. I'd suggest you go rent them both and see how you shoot with them. Nothing anyone ever tells you will replace the feel of the gun in your hand. :thumb:

Here goes. The 24/7 and PT1911 are totally different breeds of cat.

24/7 are SA/DA or of DAO style trigger types.

PT1911s are SA trigger only. Either gun is a good pick. However, it takes two seperate tyes of training, mindset, and dedication to learn the seperate types of trigger function.

Brought in some links from other places as well. That's the reason for the oddities if you see any.

Here's how this plays out at TFL. Don't mind the trolls and bashers. They have nothing of substance to add. Never do.

Notice what the actual owners say. Not the wanna-be types.
THR's take on the PT1911.

Actually there is now another trigger operation option as the new 24/7 Pro DS and 24/7 OSS DS models now have the Decocker Safety and may now be used DA/SA as well as SA/DA or Cocked and Locked.

I completely agree with Vismin on this, try them out if you're able to and go with the one you prefer!

Or you could do what I did and break down and get both (though I have a 24/7 Pro .40 and the PT 1911B1)
