I got nothing over in gun smithing so I'll check here for this.

Would it be asking for trouble to put a weighted device on the rail of a 24/7 .45 as a compensator? Are rails too weak to stand up to repeated firings with a weight attached? Or are they up to the job of just about anything?

I would expect it to hold, unless you put a heavy weight on it. The HK USP Match comes with a weight attached. If you want useful weight, get a laser or light. If you just want something to reduce muzzle flip, you are probably on your own.
