1987 hg-m99-afb5

I just purchases a HG-M99-AFB5 production date 1987. It's got aftermarket grips.

My question, does this model just not have a decocker or is it covered by the after market grips?

Thanks,
Jim

We need pics to answer your question.
If it's an '87 it won't have the decocker. I'm not sure when they introduced that on the pt92/99 series.

1987? I'm betting no decocker, but hey, take the grips off and try it?

Pretty sure no decocker on the 1987. Think the decocker came out around 1991.

Grips for decocker and non decocker are not interchangeable. The top screw holes in the left grips are in different locations. Here is a picture of a set of Hogue grips...the non decocker grip for the left side is in the middle while the decocker version is on the left. Note the difference in location between the top screw holes.

My PT99 is a late 80's early 90's vintage, and it has no decocker.
Welcome aboard, Jim, and congratulations on your purchase of a fine firearm. Your pistol is considered to be a "pre-decocker" gun. As CWB noted above, the grips are not interchangeable between decocker and non decocker guns, so keep that in mind if you decide to get an extra set of aftermarket grips. Enjoy your PT 99.

Best regards,

~ Exile
My 87 PT99 is non decocker and my brothers 1991 PT99 is a decocker model.
