    RB22 - Feed issue with CCI-CB/Long

My RB22 shoots everything fine (3 other CCI's, Geco, Eley)... EXCEPT CCI CB/Long ammo strikes the top edge of the barrel or points even higher when cycling.
    CCI-CB/Long = #0038, 710fps, 29gr.

The orig mag would not feed well at all . Factory sent me a 2nd mag for free (THANKS!) but it is only slightly better (terrible to just bad). Lips are noticibly different. No way am I going to mess with them (chicken) since other ammo cycles without issues.

Left mag is org with wider rear lips, one of which has little bend.
Right mag is from factory, both lips bent and maybe a bit more so overall I/D is narrower than org mag.
    Ammo pics = CCI-SV and CCI-CB/long.

Got it 5 months ago. Have 931 rounds through it (aprox ).

    Anybody else?
    Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem between using Aguila and Fiocchi ammo. The shape of the bullet of the Aguila ammo is different than that of the Fiocchi and will not function reliably in any of my 22s except my Rough Rider.

Your photo shows one round noticeably longer than the other plus it appears the shape of the bullet is different, it's my opinion that is what's causing the problems and not the mags.

Here's the photo I took of the 2 rounds:

The difference is very slight, but enough to cause a rash of problems. I'm staying away from Aguila ammo, there's plenty out there that works in my guns, maybe I just got a bad batch.

I have tried looking at pics of the RB22 in 22LR, but can;t see well enough. Does your barrel say 22lr/22long/22short or just 22lr? Not sure mag fed 22 bolt actions support different sizes of 22.

No S/L/LR on the barrel or manual. Just .22LR.

Casings look the same (without a micrometer.) But obviously the CB bullet itself is shorter. Prob could be just that simple... not the same total length as a LR cartridge. Thanks!

When I called Rossi and told them CB/Long's would not feed they asked about other ammo which was all a yes. Maybe the rep did not know/understand that CB's have smaller bullets (in the same casing.) ?? I'll be more specific with I call them back.

The simple answer is that's the wrong ammo for the gun. It was never intended or designed to shoot .22 Long. Few autos are intended to function with anything other than .22 lr.

The RB22 is a bolt gun.
But Silverstring's looks to have nailed it already with LR info.
Have called Rossi 3 times... on hold for 30min and gave up each time. Ick.

My bad, thought it was an auto. One thought: If you can disassemble a magazine and mount a strip of *something* up the rear wall of the magazine to take up the excess space it might decide to work. Like some manufacturers do on 9mm 1911 magazines.

Rossi confirmed that CB-Long's do not work (LR's only) by saying "it is our recommendation that CB-long's not be used".

Good to know, thanks for taking the tie to get this data.
