    Sighting in a model 66

I have a new model 66 with a six inch barrel that I have shot at the range a few times to feel it out. Today I decided to get a little more serious and start to sight it in. Not too serious though because I did not use a rest. I put 21 rounds downrange from 25 yards. This was 158 grain 38 special American Eagle (357 seems to be in short supply in my area). Everything ended up in a five inch group but seems to be 3 1/2 inches high and 2 1/2 inches to the left. My question to anyone that has done this is how much do I need to turn the screws on the rear sight to adjust this down and right. Hopefully this will save me some grief in too much/too little.

    thanks....

First off I would recommend some type of rest just for continuity. Doesn't have to be fancy just steady. Then I would shoot a group from the rest, then move the sight 10 clicks or so and shoot another group to compare. Do this until you are happy with your grouping. And remember the groupings will change if you change ammo or distance you are shooting.

thanks. I plan on using a rest next time as anything that takes me out of the picture is a good thing. I will go with 10 clicks to start and see what happens.

ID:	46493I turned the rear sight elevation 5 clicks clockwise (down)and the windage 5 clicks clockwise (right). At 25 yards the grouping moved about 4 inches to the right and 4 inches down. Freehand everything grouped within about 5 1/4 inches with 2 bulls (I lucked out and hit virtually the same hole) a 9, three 8's and one 7. Amazed how great this is to shoot. The rest is up to me to put rounds through it. What a chore that will be....lol.
