    .357 Ammo Suggestions

I am a relatively new/inexperienced gun owner, and I just got my 627 Tracker a few months ago. I was curious if people had any suggestions as to which factory ammo would be best suited for home/personal defense (I live in an apartment) as well as protection from wildlife when I am camping or hiking etc.?

Use good 38 Special or 38 Special+P for home & self defense; 125 or 158 gr JHP's. For outdoor use and as a trail gun, use 158gr 357 Magnum ammunition; preferably JHP or JSP.

Badge said it all. Mine liked the Hornaday .38 special. I had issues with the 357 Federal brand, so you might have to try out different brand names and make sure it's not going to have any issues.

I use Hornady Critical Defense for home defense in .357 caliber. It is designed for using indoors. Check it out at their site,

Forgot to mention that the Critical Defense is both low recoil and low flash.
