    Model 66 info help

    Hi,
New to these boards and was referred over here in hopes someone can lead me to some answers. Granddad passed and I received his old .357. I remember shooting it when I was a teenager and am trying to find out anything I can about it. I've scrubbed through these forums as best I could and have thus far been unable to find anyone who has been able to crack the pre US serial number codes. Mine is a Model 66, 4 inch with a serial number of 40313. It is also stamped Taurus Int Mfg, Miami, FLA.
The gun fires great, locks tight and feels almost as solid as my '63 Python. almost
Any chance anyone out there has been able to crack the 5 digit serial number codes? It would be nice to know it's date of origin and if Taurus would ever cover it under their current "lifetime" policy.

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Model 66 info help

Probably not any help, but my model 65 has NF xxxxxx (6 digits) as the serial number. I bought it 1994.

    Re: Model 66 info help

From what I am finding, it is most likely at least pre-81, which would jive up when I remember shooting it. What I did just notice, is that it's stamped P 733 where the cylinder pivots, if that helps anyone.

    Re: Model 66 info help

Actually it looks more like it may be a Model 65. Since there is not actually a Model number anywhere that I can find, I'm starting to question if it is a 66 or not.

    *** Yep, fixed (or total lack of ) sites. It's a 65.

It appears to have fixed sights which would make it a model 65. It also has the 5-screw frame indicating that it is a hammer-block model rather than a transfer-bar model. Fill in your serial number (case sensitive) into this site for a manyfacturing year. http://www.taurususa.com/find-model.cfm .
If it does not give you a year of maufacture, call Taurus at 305-624-1115.

All firearms with the Miami address are under the warranty.
