Turns out, the Defender 856 is not so new. There's and RT 856 with 3" barrel, available in other parts of the world, but not here. The front sight is really all that sets it apart from the Defender. All the more curious why 6 months after release, still none are to be found anywhere. The new is beginning to wear off and I'm starting to look elsewhere.

Agreed. I bought a 66 and just about a month ago a new 605. I’m actually much happier with those in 357 and extremely pleased with my 605’s accuracy

I also own a 66, 4" and a 66, 6". I was looking to add a 65, until I saw the Defender. I'm not really a snubby fan and the longer barrel on the Defender appeals to me. I also prefer .357 and if the 605 were available with a 3" barrel, I might be more tempted, though I'd like 6-shots instead of 5. None of my revolvers are intended for defense carry, so light weight and compact size are not concern. My interest is in a smaller framed, all-steel or all-stainless revolver with a longer than 2" barrel. 6 months out, none of my regular online suppliers have seen a Defender yet, in spite of the fact that the newly released G3c can easily be found. I may just skip it all together and go back to my original plan for a 65. Possibly and older blued steel model.

I had a local gun store preorder one straight from taurus. $310 total. Idk when I'll get it but the SSN should be low.

When companies do this, they shoot themselves right in the foot.

I have just seen the first Defender 856 available for sale. As in the video, it has the VZ grips and black cylinder. The price is too high, which doesn't surprise me considering what's going on these days and the fact that it is so new. I'm holding out for an all-stainless with the rubber grips.
