    M66 4" Stainless Price Increase?

I'm in the market for a good utility revolver. Really a used Smith or Ruger, but I'm considering a new revolver from Taurus and Sarsilmaz. Unfortunately, with the tariffs we've put on Turkey, I can't find an SR38/357 anywhere and that may not change considering that Turkey's president is a whack job that wants to turn the country into an Islamic Republic.

My shooting partner, who is my former brother-in-law, went to a gun show a couple weeks back and ran across an M66 Stainless but the guy was asking about $100 higher than the prices I've been seeing around $375. A few days later I got on the web and checked the usual suspects for prices, and sure enough, the 4" model has gone up while the 6" model can still be found at around $375 +/-. The Black models don't seem to be effected in either barrel length.

Are you guys aware of this? Any thoughts on what's going on? I'm not gonna pay $475 for a new 4" stainless M66, so I'm wondering if I should jump on one that's still under $400; or about what I'm looking to spend for a used Ruger.

I hadn't checked in awhile but it does seem like they have gone up quite a bit for the stainless. My local gun shop here in South Carolina has the 4" 66 for $496 now and I swear it was in the mid-$300's earlier this year. The blued version in 4" is listed at $363. I think that is up a bit, too, but either way, the stainless version was only about $25 or so more than the blue version before, if I recall correctly.

I don't what happened either, my LGS prices went stupid as well anywhere from $50-$100 higher across the board for .357's about the same time the new 856's came out a couple months back.

I paid $319 for Taurus M65 two years ago. New but a blem. Took me a while to discover the blemish. It was the logo. It was " blurred". It was before the newer matte black finish which looks like cheap, .97/can Walmart spray paint to me. Found a pair of larger wood grips from the dude in Thailand. Great gun.

Thanks, nevadabob, that's probably the best price I've seen using a CC.

I agree, that's a petty good price. Unless you have a "friendly" FFL, there's likely to be an additional fee there that I would imagine to be at least $25. Here in Wisconsin, there would also be the State mandated background check fee of $10 (but some FFLs charge more). About a year or so ago, I was "out the door" with my 4" SS 66 for $435. So, if one were to subtract the State background check and sales tax, shipping and the FFL's 5% over their cost arrangement, my base price would ave been ~$360. For me, those fees and charges added up but I was still OK with my price.

I am beginning to see the same situation with the black 4" M66. I can only speculate, but I am wondering since 4" models sell faster than 6", if the new shipped 4" models have had a price increase from Taurus?

I appreciate all of your informative posts. Looks like I might be headed for a Ruger, though.

Old post but I see the deal is still being offered. Right now I'm trying to decide between the 66 and the 627 so this might sway my decision over to the 66.

Edit: Just checked their web site and it now shows out of stock.
