    TCP Locked Up

I've got a problem with a TCP. The slide is locked up in the halfway open/closed. The trigger, slide release, barrel, etc...is loose, I can even pull the take down pin but the slide is totally locked.

It was lubed just a few days before at the shop I'd bought it from when they looked at it for the same problem only this time it's really stuck. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem is? I'm not sending it in to be looked at, if I can't fix it myself I'm not that interested in putting much time and effort into it. It was my wife's first concealed firearm but she's moved on from it.

Is the magazine in place? Are there any rounds in the magazine? Is there a round in the chamber? What were you doing when this happened? Can you post a picture?

    Great questions, all.

Nope no rounds in the chamber. My wife had just loaded a loaded mag into it and released the slide release when the slide started forward when it stopped dead.

I can't help as mine has never done that. I will say that if you have to send it in to Taurus, a) ask your friendly LGS that sold it to you to send it for you via USPS...he can do that and you can't. That alone will save you anywhere from 15-30 bucks. b) they won't replace it with a TCP because they don't make them anymore. Another member was offered a new Spectrum, which he didn't want and he suggested a G2C which they honored. The Spectrum might be something your wife might like...the G2C would be something you both might like.

Thanks everyone. I haven't seen anything like this in 40 some years of shooting. I may send it back because I'm cheap and hate to let something like that go. It acts like it's hung up on the slide rails but again don't know, haven't seen this before. Heck I just beat the crap out of it with a dead blow, locked in a vice. Didn't budge. My wife has decided she likes the bigger firearms, she's still carrying my 709 but back at the range she's confiscated my Ruger SR40. I may see if they'll exchange it for another G2 although I think I'll just buy her a G3/TH40/TH9 whatever she wants.

Try a Spectrum to carry as a BUG.

The fact that you can remove the takedown pin and everything stays locked up is surprising. I tried matching up my TCP with your photo, wondering if the barrel had somehow gotten ahead of or behind the pin, but I can match the barrel/slide/frame alignments with mine. So I don't think anything obvious is really out of position. Can you wiggle the slide side to side at all?

This may well be something only the factory can fix.

I'm with Ghosthorse; I thought you put the takedown pin in either ahead of, or behind the barrel slot.
But you said you can take the pin out and it's still stuck? That is surprising! Are you hitting it with the pin removed?

Two years ago I had a problem with the extractor on my 738. I sent it back to the factory, and after three months they said they couldn't fix it. They offered to replace it with a Spectrum. I wasn't impressed with what had I read about the Spectrum, so I asked if I could have a G2C instead, and they approved. I like the G2C much better!

I still wanted a small pocket gun though, so I bought a Ruger LCP-II. It's like the 738 in almost every way, but is much more reliable.
I'm very happy with both the Taurus G2C, and the Ruger LCP-II.
