    Broken "Loaded chamber indicator"

I've had my PT111 for about 6 months now and been carrying it for couple of weeks.

As I was getting ready to go to bed last night, I pulled the pistol out of my holster and realized something was sticking up on the gun slide. Upon closer inspection, I realized the loaded chamber indicator is broken -- broke off where it pivots. I have no idea how this happened. I shot the gun Sunday and I did noticed it then. Anybody had this happened with their gun?

Called Taurus today and I was advised to send it in for repair. I was told average turn around time is 6 weeks.

Send it back. It is a simple fix. Don't hear about these too often.

A while ago someone asked whether people trust these LCIs or to do visual checks. This right here proves to me that a visual check is always a good way to go. An LCI is mechanical, and as we see here, it can break. I hope you turnaround time is fast.

They work and are not bad when you are in the dark and want to check it without turning the lights on.
Battle of Wanat: 10 years ago last 13 July, 1LT Brostram was killed in combat killing the last enemy combatant in the outpost. The LT went to the point of decision and made the difference that turned the tide of the battle. The original investigation found the Bde Cmdr, the Bn Cmdr and the Co Cmdr at fault for dereliction of duty. If you want to see what a sarcastic silver star citation reads like, pull up the company commander's silver star.

My Ruger SR40c snapped off. Used gun when I got it. Ruger will replace it, but, it's not in my carry rotation, so I really am not pushed to get it fixed anytime soon.

If you rely on it I would send it in, if you don't use it should not hurt anything. If Taurus is going to pay the shipping is something else to consider

Grrrrr...... this is one of those times where I wish Taurus would be better about selling their parts.

Its a simple fix, but not without a replacement part.

If you want to remove the thing, all you need to do is punch out the pin retaining it.

Anyone else know if the pin is direction oriented or tapered ?

ETA- this is the first time I've seen one break. On any gun. Not the first I've heard of it tho.

I like them because my physically disabled wife can see at a glance when one of our handguns is loaded. She doesn't have to scare the living snot out of me trying to do a chamber check against a recoil spring, scene of which makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck......

Further ETA- GreenWolf. love the signature line.

Same thing happened to me. Got home from The Bullet Stop and cleaning it saw it. I'm not going without a weapon, just going to remove it. I KNOW my chamber is full...

Pick up a G3C first, then send it in. Taurus had my Judge PD Poly for 16 weeks not long ago.
