    New Taurus PT638: can't disassemble!

I just picked up my new Taurus PT638 from Gander Mountain today, and like all of my new purchases, I disassemble them give them a thorough cleaning then oil them before I take them to the range. My problem is that as per instructions I remove magazine, pull slide back and lock it. Then I remove the disassembly latch--no problem. Then I release the slide and pull the trigger but the slide assembly will only move forward about a quarter of an inch. Is there some kind of trick or something that I'm missing? Maybe someone here has had that same problem. Let me know.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I looked at that video before I attempted to disassemble. Don't see what problem is but slide won't budge past a quarter-inch or so. Thanks for information. I think the only other thing might be to put some protective wrapping around slide, put in vice and tug harder...

    Success...

Success!! Rather than trying to pull the slide forward I put my palm behind it and pushed like hell--slide finally came out and hit the floor. No damage to slide. Could not find any obvious rough spots that would cause the slide to stick. I hope it will become easier the more I have to take it down. Off to the range tomorrow to put a hundred or so rounds through it.

And now for the rest of the story: After taking my new PT-638 to the range the next day (10-11-2013) it performed well--that is I shot a few reasonable groups while I got used to the sights. Maybe 2 1/2 to 3" groups. But when I took it home and tried to disassemble it for cleaning I found that I could not get the slide to move more than 1/4" forward. After calling Taurus and describing the problem the guy on the phone told me I needed to send in my newly purchased 638 for repairs. So being a holiday weekend I didn't get to send it until Tuesday 10/15. I just got it back today and here's what they had to replace: Trigger bar, ejector, recoil spring and barrel. Problem solved. Now it disassembles as it is supposed to. Thank you Taurus for great customer service!!

Will do--taking it to range tomorrow.

10/23: took it to the range today and it worked flawlessly. I put about 100 rounds through with NO failure to feed, failure to eject or any other sort of failure. Looks like the repair folk at Taurus got it perfectly right. Again, kudos to Taurus!
