Confused about a new Taurus 1911 AR

I am confused here a bit. I purchased and just received a used Taurus 1911 AR. I was under the impression that if it has 1911 AR down the side of the slide that it was going to be an alloy frame. To my suprise when i pick it up the first time at the dealer i felt it was pretty stout (noticably heavier than my fathers 1911 AR that he has). And after doing a simple test with a magnet i have come to find out that in deed my 1911 AR is a steel frame, and his is Alloy. Is this normal????

Yup. The AR is a PT1911 with a rail, The AL is the alloy frame. The ALR is the alloy frame with a rail.

Re: Confused about a new Taurus 1911 AR

Some of the earlier PT1911's were labeled PT1911AR, the AR standing for attachment or accessory rail. To avoid the confusion that followed Taurus now calls the The Pt1911 with a rail the PT1911 B1 and the Stainless version the PT1911 SS-1.

Just as they said, there are a few different types of the AR, and the one you are speaking about(that your father has) is the ALR. This is the ALR, noticeably different frame then the steel versions.
