    It's a beautiful state. I like the higher altitude areas best, like the forests you mention.

    I liked the diversity of the state. Mountains in the north, desert in the south and the plains in the central area. I still miss inner tubing on the Pecos river. The number of wildlife seen along the banks was spellbinding (or was it the cold beer in the cooler floating with us?) I loved hiking the mesa country near Tucumcari, always saw a boat load of mule deer and antelope. The White Mountain Wilderness in Lincoln National Forest had some great hiking trails. I elk hunted in the Carson National Forest in 73. That was truly "God's Country", Damn, this is making me home sick!
