    PT1911 Red Dot Mounting

Hi, I have not been able to find a way to attach a Red Dot sight to my PT1911, without milling the slide dovetail to accept a Colt 1911 proprietary mounting pad, then the red Dot. Any Ideas??...........Ken

Welcome to the forum from Northern Illinois. There will be someone along with the dovetail specs on the PT 1911 shortly, then you may be able to find a picatinny mount with a similar dovetail that you could file to fit. I'd rather file on the component then the slide.

I'm going to move you over to Gunsmithing to help get more qualified eyes to see your project!

Depend on the red dot but EGW sells mounting plates for different models as well as the red dot manufacturers. The dove tail on the mounting plate won't fit the PT 1911 but think of it as a sight and fit the dovetail on the plate to the slide. Here is a pic of my Burris Fastfire III, not on a Taurus but give you a Idea.

Maybe you want to try contacting these folks and/or determine the spec difference between the Glock dovetail and the PT1911.

Here's a review of a guy who mounted one of these on a Canik SF9.

I've got the specs around here somewhere.. iirc the dovetail on the rear sight is the same angle and depth as a Novak, but it's narrower then the Novak in front to back dimensions just slightly which makes standard Novak sights incompatible.

EDIT: Here are the specs on a Novak - https://www.novaksights.com/UIImages...r%20web%20.jpg
Note the rear sight is .495 (11mm) on the base of the dovetail.
