My new Taurus M605 5 shot .357 Magnum snub-nose revolver, to replace my recalled Rossi R461, has arrived at my local FFL/Gun Shoppe. I dropped by and filled out the new 4473 this afternoon and paid their $50 transfer fee. I can take possession of the piece this Thursday any time after 3:00pm.

Taurus received my Rossi snubbie the 2nd of April, so the process took almost 5 months in total, not counting getting my original work order number back in mid September 2018.

Now I need to get informed about the potential for that $$$ courtesy rebate from Taurus.

Why settle with a 5 shot when the 461 was a 6 shot? Oh, Taurus has no snub .357 6 shooters.

I accepted what they offered and am satisfied with that decision. 'Nuff said.

Can't wait to use the shop's range when I pick it up.

Picked up my new M605 matte black today and tried about 50 rounds of .38 reloads in it at the shop range. VERY comfortable to shoot, the stock grip felt fine so I think I'll just keep it rather than swapping for a Hogue 67000. Quite accurate little snubbie, trigger is acceptable both SA and DA.

I do believe it's a keeper and will go into my carry rotation soon.

That would be false as the 856 is a six shot revolver and no it is not a .357 magnum. A lot of people do use and shoot more .38 Specials through their .357 magnums and that is true for the Rossi as well. I still have my 462 and am in the process of turning it in. So a change for a Taurus 856 would be a fair ballpark swap for me and a majority of others.

2" barreled .357 magnum revolvers give up a lot of power out such a short barrel. Gains in velocity are just not that great.

For decades the .38 Special has been getting the job done in defending it's users despite the barrel length. If one likes the .357 maggy in such a short barreled gun, fine. There are a lot who choose to go the other way with this.

There are mountains of threads and posts over the decades of this gun forum where the majority of users are or were using the .38 Special more so than .357 magnum rounds. This is also true for the gun magazines and writers as well. Yes, there are some exceptions to that. That's fine also.

Of course in my case a 5 shot snub revolver or 6 shot snub is just fine for me. I own and use both types. That's up to the each individual to decide what works for them.

Oh, yes. The 605 is a fine revolver. Nice choice RandyP.

The 605 is what Taurus offered to replace my Rossi 461 that I sent back for the safety recall. I was hoping it would merit the good reviews it gets on the interwebs, and indeed it does.

Figured I'd post my status (and vent LOL)...I submitted my info and got the work order ID back in April. Called twice since then and each time I'm told "a few more weeks and we will send you out the info for return/repair". Just now got off the phone. She tells me they only started sending out labels in April of this year, and are only up through those requested through November 2018?!!? So going to be a LONG time I think. Funny, this is the 3rd time I called, and now the story they give makes reference to the Rossi process being SEPARATE and DIFFERENT from Taurus. Nice now they want to try and distance themselves from it.

Honestly, in years past I was a fan of both Rossi and Taurus, but with the QC of the last two I bought, and now this, I think I would be hard pressed to return to them.

Funny thing about timing...the return label and letter just came in the mail! LOL Though you figured the person I spoke to would have know it was sent when I gave her the work ID number this morning. I get the sense that this may be a very haphazard operation...I'm hoping they track the whereabouts of my revolver better than my status!

I have been advised by a Taurus rep that they will also reimburse the FFL fee I had to pay on this end to accept the replacement snubbie. So 'almost' a win-win, lacking of course the chicken dinner - lol

How about the 50 buck "inconvenience" rebate?
